Updated :)

BTW as a HT connoisseur, do you feel there's a difference between lossy Atmos on a Apple TV vs lossless tracks from a BR disc?

Anyone downloaded any apps in Apple TV 4K which can stream local radio channels?

Found one app call Receiver Radio but not sure if it has local radio stations.

Thanks for the info.

Not a big mediacorp fan. Was looking for radio stations from SPH like Kiss 92 or UFM1003. I know Tunein has but Tunein does not have app for Apple TV.

Or look for singapore radio I think there’s an app

I am wondering how will the mirror cast be like if I were to cast to apple tv? The ipad aspect ratio is 4:3 and the TV is usually 16:9. If I were to play a 16:9 movies, I presume my TV will be fully filled with black bar top and bottom whereas if I project 4:3, the TV will show black bar at the sides?

Hopefully we can see Apple TV app on our Tv soon seems only a few brands at this point.

Quite frankly, I don’t see anyone will be getting Apple TV when the upcoming slew of TVs gonna incorporate Apple TV apps into it.

Hi guys, very new to streaming services.

before I go get a apple TV 4k, mainly for Netflix usage, does apple TV 4k provide better audio and picture quality compare to other media box?

Currently using Sony x700 for Netflix.

But x700 is lacking atmos support, at least apple TV 4k can play atmos content.

But x700 Netflix audio playback is not impressive at all. Passable only.

Does apple TV 4k has better audio since its seemed to be one of the preferred device for Netflix.

Also will I have better picture quality?

Thanks for reading

Nothing beats the physical disc imo. Atmos and pic quality from ATV is not too shabby though. Also content-dependent I would say.

Our Planet from Netflix looks awesome on the ATV.

PQ wise is good but Apple TV DO NOT allow bitstream...hence titles with DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1/7.1 all decoded as MultiPCM (decoded by Apple TV)...and that's often not good since bitstreaming performed by a dedicated AVR will always be much better notwithstanding the bitrate for MPCM can sometimes be on par or even better.

Dolby Atmos is definitely a new addition. I am one of the fortunates that can get my Panasonic UDP-420 to play Netflix in 4K with HDR and Dolby Atmos (connected to Denon AVC-8500H). For Atmos decoding, do take note NOT ALL AVRs allows Dolby Atmos decoding from Netflix App...so far Denon AVR is one of them...I can't even be certain whether Marantz AVR allows Dolby Atmos pass through. So it is a hit-or-miss when it comes to bluray player-based Netflix app. But if all you desired is 4K with DV/HDR and Dolby Atmos w/o any worry in terms compatibility, Apple 4K TV is your best bet.

And yes, NOTHING can compare to the PQ and SQ of a physical disc medium...but streaming can be enjoyable and allows you to enjoy content that doesn't require you to listen at reference movie level...there are tons of Netflix Originals featuring edutainment stuff like documentaries and sitcoms to watch. You have a choice.

Speaking of the devil !

I just got mine recontracting with M1 fiber, just to play Netflix ... not too bad, but the TV”s built in Netflix is much better

Heard that Warner brothers and Disney are pulling out from Netflix as well, probably to have their own streaming platform... huhu

Yes it’s nice, especially if one is a fan of the Korean dramas or drama stuff, some of these are available at the click of your HP or remote, and Quality is pretty decent . Still not as good as USA content but ok I suppose for casual watching

I had been using a Nvidia Shield for Netflix but frustrated as it does not support Atmos for Netflix though I believe it does for Vudu and Amazon as well as playing files from a NAS.

I had debating getting a AppleTV just for the ability to do Atmos over Netflix but managed to do it from my Winows 10 laptop. It depends on the Windows build and you have to use the Netflix App from the Windows Store and not play from Chrome/Firefox.

Good question, not sure. I still have play around using a my Laptop as a player, not even sure my laptop supports 4k off the top of my head. I was too focused to try to get Atmos to work for Netflix without buying an AppleTV

I’m a Mac user

So it’s easy to use

Gives good picture quality and stores my movies online.

Do make sure your TV is truly HDR capable ie when you can go above 1000 nits it’s truly amazing

Actually quite surprised why ur bluray player allow Atmos because on Netflix site, devices that support atmos is quite restricted, Panasonic TV 2019 onwards, don't see bluray.

I think the issue is the logo for atmos doesn't even show in Netflix using most devices except the listed one in Netflix site.
