Brilliant thought love the Guzzi , Rural Rat hit hit the nail on the head.I've often thought the Honda cx 500 (the poor man's Guzzi) would be a good platform as a cafe racer .

The CX is a fav with Cafe Racer enthusiasts, but Im not too keen on their reliability record. Nor the cost. I picked my Guzzi up in bits and very cheap.

It is also a bit lighter than the Honda.

Ill get some prices on the extras like tank, forks and rear shocks and then decide.

It needs a good overhaul anyway so I may as well do something interesting and original with it.

Id thought a beaten aluminium rear tail that hinged up to expose a long seat and act as a back rest for the pillion would be nice. They are really only for one rider but you never know, a second seat could come in handy.

I've a freind who lives just up the street who has 2 perfectly restored Le Mans. A Mk1 and a Mk3 He had a Daytona but didnt like it and sold it last year. He bought a 2002 Californian this year and is busy doing it up.

But he rides a BMW 700GS for long distance touring.

Those shots are inspiring me to get a Guzzi again. Had a Le Mans Mk3 and a V50 Monza in the past. Loved the sound, integrted brakes gave a great feeling of confidence and even enjoyed the way they would rock sideways withan increase in revs.

The last pic from the rear reminds me of the Melbourne dealers adds that had the a pair of fishnets astride the Guzzi taken from the rear. Would love to get one of those posters.

You're making me cry - I love the look of Cafe Racers; not sure about the Guzzi's though. I always thought they looked a little chunky

Thanks MC - the Japanese Bonneville, but quicker and more reliable and cheaper and sounded better too!

I changed the bars to flats the day after this pic was taken - just got it back from the bike shop with new paint and pipes etc. (back in the mid 70's)
