Addicted to music Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Hi Migasson, made my way to Addicted to Audio this afternoon and checked out the T1, T90, Audeze LCD2 and the HD800. M, you picked the right one . All where via laptop, Foolbar, Vioectric VPH100, I had the T90 on 1st, and then I put on the T1, for some strange reason I though I had selected the wrong cans, it was like going from full on serious dynamic and then to lame, I checked and yes the lame one was the T1. I tried the LCD2, very different and darker, again the weight in dynamic wasnt there, The T90 @ the volume I was listening to seem about 2-3 notches more than the T1 or the LCD2 on the same level. The T90 had the details and dynamic you just crave for, amazing clarity dynamics and extented across the frequency, it leaves IMHO the T1 & the LCD2 behind, and for $700 its a bargin compared to the other 2. I also tried the HD 800, this was bright, again laid back and neutral and again 2-3 notches down @ the same volume compared to the T90. Owners of HD800 will think that the T90 is way too aggressive as it is louder and almost twice the dynamic as the the others here. But in saying that all you need to do is turn the volume down so it equal the others in dynamic. Miggason, bro, there is no need to check the LCD2 or HD800, the T90 as far as I concern is streets ahead, this thing according to ATA is Beyerdynamics latest. All I can say is WOW. The LCD2 was a little more finess in certain areas, but the HD 800 & T1 was out of the race. Whats suprising is that for those who like liquid mids, the T90 is the cans for you. My question to you Miggason, what is the T90 like with ipods and lame laptop outputs? Does it sound OK and is it liveable?
migasson Posted December 17, 2012 Author Posted December 17, 2012 Awesome! Great to be helpful in some way! (It also means I'm NOT deluded or hearing things which are not there;)) when you say "liquid mids" is probably why it mates so well with my Woo WA6 I've ordered. Glad I also don't have to be in any rush to find out what the others are like....! I haven't plugged it into my Mac yet, but I did jack it directly into my Denon CD player, it was certainly palatable, just compared to the Woo, lost a lot of the dynamics. I've ordered a HRT Headstreamer for my Mac, should be coming anytime soon, I'll let you know what that's like. Only $135 from Wicked Digital, and made in the USA.. Should be a bargain:) Great to see you love the T90's.. I trust you grabbed a pair!
Addicted to music Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 Im damn disappointed I didnt hace cash on me, they wanted an extra 2.0% on card! It'll have to be another day. Did you pay $699?
migasson Posted December 17, 2012 Author Posted December 17, 2012 Pretty much! But at that discount, I didn't complain:)
henry218 Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 any of you tried the senn momentum? i found it very satisfying coming out of iphone. will try with audiogd when im back in sydney.
henry218 Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 im new at headphones, im interested with home rig, just not sure which ones. T90 seems very good and withing the budget.
migasson Posted December 17, 2012 Author Posted December 17, 2012 I haven't tried the Momentum.. I've heard good things too. How I did it was worked out the sound signature I preferred, that helped me narrow down to which models i would listen to! You can probably tell what myself and pchan like. Then pick the amp that best drives them. No different to hifi, which is a good thing! I've found that impedance matching in headphones is sooo important for the sound, as various versions of 'phones can have a different sonic signature. This link helped me:- http://nwavguy.blogspot.com.au/2011/02/headphone-impedance-explained.html?m=1 Have fun listening to the T90's!
Addicted to music Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I have finally had the T90 for a few months now and its given me a lot of enjoyment in listening to dynamic cans. I don’t have anything to drive them except the OPPO 105 headphone section. This combo where the OPPO reads a 1TB USB 3.0 HDD is possible the most impressive in extracting details to whatever sound vibration however minute is presented on that recording. My only regret is that its not loud enough but in saying that, when i take the T90 off my head you don’t realise how loud you have it and to me thats basically hearing damage volume. The reality is that they are so clear that there is an addiction to keep going louder, the louder you go the more satisfy you get! I have also read a few forum saying these are bright and sibilant, to me thats an advantage rather a disadvantage, because the detail it extract is definitely way better than any cans i have audition apart from the Stax at its price point. They are also well built, comfortable with one drawback when you move your jaw, you get this plastic vibration, but thats about it. A real credit to Beyerdynamic for this product. Really enjoy using it! 2
migasson Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Yeah, wow.. didn't expect this thread to be resurrected:) Yep. One day I'll get another pair.... still prefer this out of a valve amp:)
Addicted to music Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Yeah, wow.. didn't expect this thread to be resurrected:) Yep. One day I'll get another pair.... still prefer this out of a valve amp:) Understand where you are coming from M, you are the one who inspired me to these and at the time I just though they will be another set some owner is going to paise about. However I liked them so much that I needed a pair. Valves will warm them up but it's all the way SS for me. Some will complained these are way to bright and artificial on the OPPO 105 head amp or any SS. I love it the way it is. What ever reason I'm sure you will own another set.
Soundscape Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I have had a new set of T90 for a couple of weeks and I love them. They were a bit dark next to my K702 to begin with, but are opening up beautifully now. I was listening to some electronica last night, some stuff a friend sent me and I was having chills at the sensation of these sounds that felt like were stroking/tickling the inside of my brain. Never felt that before. Best thing is, I bought them during the ebay 15 sale and only paid $450 for them, with local warranty. Best hifi purchase I ever made, very very happy with them 1

However because they're open back the better 1/2 tells me off! I've compared thenm to the HD800. LCD 2 and the T1, the T90 is way more efficient and easier to drive. Out of all of these I had to slap myself to come to terms to a cans at this price point that sounds so good. Edited October 17, 2014 by pchan
ericd Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Damn, I wish I'd known about that price on the T90's. Good score there rehab. I have been thinking about selling both my current headphones (HD 650 and Shure1440) and getting these. Edited October 17, 2014 by ericd
Soundscape Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 Sorry guys, my bad. I paid ~$550 inclusive after the discount. Ebay seller "Soundseasy", based in Sydney have/had them listed at $699 or offers. Previously I had negotiated them down to $620 iirc but it wasn't low enough for my budget and I let the offer lapse. The ebay 15% off sale came up, and I contacted them saying I'd be prepared to pay $650 with the discount in mind, and they graciously obliged by reducing the listing temporarily to that price. Highly recommended seller!

This is the headphone chain that I have been putting together for the last four years: PC - ART Legato usb/spdif converter - AudioGD DAC19 MkIII (PM100 filter) DAC - Mapletree Audio Design EAR HD+ headamp - T90. The Headphones are the only new component I have bought, which finally complete the puzzle to the level of satisfaction I have been aiming for all along. Such a smooth, detailed dynamic rig. This will be my endgame headphone setup for the forseeable future, apart from PC upgrades.

mmu16 Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Guys, how does the T90 fair in commute? Being an open design, does it leak sound in/out lots or is it bearable?
migasson Posted November 12, 2014 Author Posted November 12, 2014 Guys, how does the T90 fair in commute? Being an open design, does it leak sound in/out lots or is it bearable? It's pretty much fully open. The background noise would piss me off!! Though nowhere near the same league, but nearly half price, try a Beyer T70P.. It's a bit bass light next to the T90, and comparatively sibilant, but it's piss easy to drive from portable sources.. If you want warmer, go Beyer DT770 32 ohm, it's cheaper still, not as well finished with cheap vinyl pads,
mmu16 Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 Thanks. Got a pair of Beyer T51p's. Fully closed and on-ears so pretty small too. Pairs up really well with my Fiio X5 DAP. 1
blybo Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 any of you tried the senn momentum? i found it very satisfying coming out of iphone. will try with audiogd when im back in sydney. Okay, I know it's a 2 year old post but I've had my Momentum over ears for about a month now, after initially getting on ears. I'm now finding excuses to take the dog for a walk, quite amazed at the ALAC sound straight out of the iPhone 6, which is a significant improvement over the iPhone 5. Love em, awesome value. As I think pcham mentioned before, although I've at times found myself wanting more volume from the iPhone, I take them off to find out it's been very loud but sooo smooth to not be fatiguing.
