what resolution does the x1100es output dvd at? 480i or 480p?

The previous x700 couldn't do 480i and I wanted the tv to handle the upscaling rather than passing through the player then the tv.

The 1100es still cannot do source direct resolution.

For DVD playback (yes, I still have lotsa them), auto will output at 1080p.

It can be forced to 480i manually or to 4k (let player do upscaling). However upscaling wise, the z9d still trump it.

In this respect, oppo is still preferable with the source direct mode.

If I play Bluray ripped stored in HDD thru the USB, which has a better picture quality? X1100 or zidoo?

I am thinking to upgrade my X800.

Is X1100 Netflix app support dolby atmos?

It doesn’t

In any case I’m not sure that the 1100 is significantly better than its stablemate in this respect

Thanks. Noted.

Wow it has been 4 years since my last post.

Currently looking for a universal player to replace Pioneer player.

This Sony x-700 seems to be a good bargain in being able to play sacd and 4K disc.

As I still have lots of R1 DVD from good old days... I might need to mod an Sony entry level bd player to play those dvd which I got it when I bought my Sony tv last year.

I'm in the same shoe that I need to play R1 DVD (tv series mostly).

I was previously using the x700 and the main issue is the incapability for source-direct resolution. It outputs DVD at 480p, and then the TV does the rest, which is quite disastrous.

Oppo is still the best IMO for source direct resolution.

Recently got the X1100 and though it does not do source direct, after trying for sometime, I'm now using it for DVD playback also. It's upscaling is way better than the x700, and the end result is a close second behind the Oppo. Bonus is you can use the same remote for your tv and player.

If you can find an Oppo, I'd still recommend that, else the X1100 is a close second.

Thx brother,

Did you buy your unit oversea?

I dun want to spend too much on hardware, that is why the x700 pricing is so attractive.

I saw a Pioneer set bdp-x300 which goes for 6xx....but it is not a true 4K player.

Just placed order. Thanks for the link.

x1100 need to manually enable/disable Dolby Vision.  The player will output as Dolby Vision once enabled, even if the disc does not contain Dolby Vision.

Nice thanks for the review.

So glad to hear that there's a player now that can be close to oppo. At least when oppo bd players get obsolete, we can have this to fall back on.

So far, how's the file playback support thru USB HDD for the x1100 and x700 compared to oppo?

I tried the latest renowned panny bd players but the file support thru USB hdd is very very limited though the pq is superb.

Dun judge x1100es until you've inverted ac polarity, if your set was purchased from us online sources.

Remember to invert only on the iec plug thats plugged into the back of the player.

For euro/hk sets, not sure if ac polarity reversal is required. If anyone got confirmed photos kindly share here. Thanks.

Is the UBP1100ES from amazon.sg via USA multi voltage or do you need a transformer?

I bought a mod unit, so it was universal, however some chaps in AVS have reported it as 220v capable. So YMMV..
