Guest BadEnglish Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 Looks like the PSI will be the safest option. Anyone tried other brands other than PSI? I am running out of space for my music collection and products like these will allow me to let go my four bulky bass traps to make way for more space It's very safe to advise you to have home trail for a few days.
Chowbotak Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 To have home trial, I'll need to remove my four bass traps, meaning have to sell them off cos I absolutely have no space to park them in my mediocre HDB flat. Sekaly sell aldy I prefer the bass traps. So another question is, is it safe for me to sell my bass traps ;D

Listen for a few days, without them. Then get active basstrap home trail a few days. If you are a pure stereo or music old man, I know you are, then you will prefer,........ pure
kimurastanley Posted September 1, 2018 Posted September 1, 2018 I am having 2 PSI bass trap at 2 diagonal corners of my living room. Works very well for me

Sound Affairs Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 As seen in the Wilson / Audio research showroom at the recently concluded Hong Kong Hifi 2018 Show. 4 PSI AVAA C20 Active Bass Traps (2 stacked) at the 2 corners behind the Wilson speakers to improve the bass performance. Cheers. James.
whitesox Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 It's very safe to advise you to have home trail for a few days. yeah... especially for the price of $1k or/and above I will start to Q
nfnc Posted September 17, 2018 Posted September 17, 2018 I am using the AVAA in an untreated but well damped room. Was skeptical at first, given the rave reviews, even after ronildoq’s empirical findings. However, from the home demo in my room, it really does work. The first thing that I noticed was the perceptible reduction (or elimination, depending on the track) of bass overhang. The “... mmm” bit of a “boom” note doesn’t slur into and interfere with the “boo..” of the next note. Bass notes are cleaner, more textured. Due to the elimination of bass bloat and congestion, it does help clear up the lower mids and, to a lesser extent, the mids. At the maximum absorption setting, I found the sound a tad dry (even if it is possibly more correct), so I have dialed it down to 3/4 for now. Sometimes, resistance is futile [emoji16].
joeling Posted September 26, 2018 Posted September 26, 2018 Before After Placement is behind listening position My room I have bass traps in a few strategic places but still some standings waves. 2 units of the active bass traps helped. Bass is now more defined.
nfnc Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Good to see measurements before and after [emoji106] Was the placement behind the listening position arrived at after trying various spots in your room? Did you try placing them behind the speakers too?
milk_vanilla Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Just wondering if you guys keep turn this ON all the time or just during listening period - if not forgotten :) ?
kimurastanley Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Just wondering if you guys keep turn this ON all the time or just during listening period - if not forgotten :) ? I will off when not in use. But most of the time forgot and leave it on overnight Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Did you try placing them behind the speakers too? I put offending standing wave frequency on repeat then use my SPL meter phone app to go round the room. Loudest was next to the speaker port & second loudest was the current position of the traps. Tried both locations & the best result was the current position.
joeling Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Just wondering if you guys keep turn this ON all the time or just during listening period - if not forgotten :) ? Me lazy. Just leave it on 24/7
nfnc Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Just wondering if you guys keep turn this ON all the time or just during listening period - if not forgotten :) ? All linked to the power conditioner so its on when the system is powered up, even when not listening. If the AVAA is EU compliant, then the standby power consumption should only be 0.5W although I have seen the figure 5W mentioned in some review.
joeling Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Thanks, joeling. Which app did you use? iphone app named Analyzer. It has a SPL meter function.
nfnc Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Thanks. What programme did you use to determine the room modes?
1AngMoh Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 [...] Thanks. What programme did you use to determine the room modes? This is XTZ’s Room Analyzer Pro. I also use it.
nfnc Posted September 27, 2018 Posted September 27, 2018 Thanks. P/s. Meant to thank 1AM for the info on the XTZ Room Analyzer. His post appears to have disappeared - unsure if this is a Tapatalk issue.
ronildoq Posted October 2, 2018 Author Posted October 2, 2018 U can actually use REw to measure the room modes, just need a umik-1 mic , it will tell u all the room modes. U can then use room mode eq function to do real time analysis on bass decay, moving the Q and gain accordingly as the waterfall graph changes Ideally what you wanna achieve is a measurement that is 40db above noise floor, for it to be meaningful, so if your noise floor is 45db, you wanna take a 85db sweep All bass below this noise floor, if say 45db , should be fully decayed within 300ms, then the bass ringing is controlled and u will enjoy a very fast tight bass
Sound Affairs Posted November 14, 2018 Posted November 14, 2018 Another SG Customer with the PSI AVAA C20 Active Bass Trap in his setup. His Feedback : Hi James, Thanks for the loan for the PSI Active Bass Trap. The Bass traps home trial is pure poison! Hard not to have them in my living room after trying out. The clean up and clarity in the bass after the bass trap improved the mids and highs performance and details! Andy.
Sound Affairs Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 Recent Setups using PSI AVAA C20 Active Bass Trap to improve the whole system performance. Setup 1: This customer using a customed made 15inch bass driver speakers uses the PSI AVAA C20, located at the right hand corner, behind his speakers, to solve his bass boom issue, with such a big speaker driver close to the back wall, and no other acoustic treatment. With the corrected and accurate bass, there is actually improved resolution in the mids and highs which where previously hidden by the bass boom. The result, no bass boom and improved detailed and sound staging across the whole spectrum. Setup 2. This setup uses the active ADAM tensor speakers (dual 10 inch) in a typical HDB room. The bass boom is so bad the room door and window grills rattles when strong bass tracks are played. The user tried to "treated" the problem with traditional corner foam based "bass" traps with little effect. With the use of 2 x PSI AVAA C20 active bass traps behind his speakers, his room Bass Boom issue is SOLVED. No more rattling and improved levels of details across all frequency spectrum. The old ineffective foam bass traps are removed for even better room acoustics The PSI AVAA C20 Active Bass Traps remains the ONLY effective and PROVEN bass absorber solution below 60hz (it works from 15hz to 125hz), that is small in size and elegant in usage. James.
ronildoq Posted January 21, 2019 Author Posted January 21, 2019 Oh, having completed my room acoustics, I will still want to see if the PSI helps, I believe it will, it did clean up and improve the decay times <40hz... Will take some measurements and confirm as well...
