ronildoq Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 Some samples of the BAD panels in birch ply, arriving from China soon... This will go onto the grid system flanking the Atmos overhead speakers. Why I took this route? I’m never a fan of bipolar or dipole , omnipolar or tripolar speakers. I prefer monopoles. But in order to achieve a wide dispersion characteristic with a sense of directivity, diffusion is necessary. This diffusion panel will sit in front of the echophon panel with a fiberglass backing to absorb bass, then rockwool with an air GAP behind to further absorp lower frequency bass, at the same time diffusing Mids and highs , exactly what I want out from the Atmos ceiling speakers Placement layout will be diffusors-absorption-diffusors. One exception will be 2 panels place specifically at 50 degree angle from the centre speakers, this the first reflection point of my centre speakers, placing the BAD panels here will bring out the vocals from the centre channel... fingers crossed.. hehe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ronildoq Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 Sneak peak, unboxing World Class SMT Wings! Walnut was supposed to be for another Friend, he exchanged it with me, thanks ! U know who u r ! SMT Wings Diffusors Front view Back view Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ronildoq Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 Unboxing 4 pieces gray version, this display units that we got, looks like new !! Just slightly dusty, wipe it off , but for the price we got on the demo sets, absolutely worth it! By the way, all demo sets whacked by few of us, no more left ... If there is any demo sets, go for it ! Very good value indeed This one is actually audiophile stuff, very good for music! I think music lovers will enjoy what this SMT wings bring to the table... I’m using mainly for HT, but will benefit as well from music... Ceiling mostly done, still some minor work, today focus mainly on mounting this heavy panels onto the wall, damn heavy Using the brackets like this to flush mount The one on TOP goes behind the panel, the one at the bottom onto the wall. Brackets from previous acoustic panels, re use it to flush mount on wall Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ronildoq Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 Nice! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Sound also damn nice bro! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ronildoq Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 Almost done, atmos 6 overheads on ceiling... Front height will be wired in parallel with TOP front ceiling height, which is mounted 150cm in front of MLP. Front height will be all the way in front , tilted and angling towards MLP. The angle of reflection from the tilt, is where I’ll place the BAD panels... TOP centre mounted 35cm behind MLP , TOP back all the way to the back.... Front and back will be discrete channels, whilst the TOP center will be a matrixed using lyngdorf mp50, mp50 will post process the signal from back and front to channel to TOP... let’s see how that turns out... ronildoq Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 First of SMT up! Diffusion-Absorption-Diffusion This is placed exactly behind MLP , the seaton sits just under, 65 cm from ground. Moving another seaton here maybe co locate it... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ronildoq Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 Here where some of the panels went...above the surrounds I have the TOP center tweeter angled towards the height mounted SMTs at the surrounds, hoping for a wider sound stage... let’s see how it goes... The TOP back atmos is angled towards The back of MLP The TOP front is angled sideways as well Nice to have Atmos speakers that you can angle left right front back.. versatile... The above is dihedral mount, this method of mounting will help with bass trap, you can see there is an air GAP to trap longer wavelengths... This acoustic door is a velocity trap door with mass loaded vinyl, DAMN Effective! Immediately after closing the door, the whole room goes silent, nice... exactly what I want... More or less done after cleaning up etc.... final front view looks Still have 2x60cm SMT wings to flank the centre channel... will probably do it later when the Lyngdorf MP50 arrives...still gotta clear and tidy all the messy cables and reposition the speakers for optimum performance ... NO PAIN NO GAIN..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ronildoq Posted December 28, 2018 Author Posted December 28, 2018 This morning I woke up.... walked out to the living room.... wow!! Super silent... I can only hear the wall clock clicking sound, tick tock tick tock ... straight away I can “feel” the room acoustics... nice man ! Can’t wait to pop in some demo scenes Looks like gotta swap out the wall clock for a digital clock.... Can already “feel” the reverb greatly reduced when I exhale my breath, feels tight and silent , living room feels like studio room now... I presume should be down by at least 10db... Will measure the room noise floor again when I get the chance... heading for some KEC workshop this weekend... busy busy busy... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ronildoq Posted December 28, 2018 Author Posted December 28, 2018 Got silent sweep analogue wall clock, mustafa many many Thanks for the heads up, will look around for suitable one. I actually like the analogue ones, want my kids to learn how to look at the time, most likely will move this clock into the room and get one without sound... The other stuff I got also generates noise, I bought this 5 Bay drive for harddisk for movies, but there is a fan inside that is also generating noise... wrong move buying this... Boxerfan88 Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Wow, what’s your new noise floor like? 30dB? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ronildoq Posted December 28, 2018 Author Posted December 28, 2018 No idea bro, haven’t measured ...definitely much lower Just popped in a quick CD and had a listen.... speechless... absolutely amazing I can crank up the volume by +10 more db from normal listening, and doesn’t sound loud at all, bass feels very tight, reverb time definitely much improved, how fast ? Haven’t measured, sound stage and livlineness is like in a 3D bubble This is the first one I’m actually really listening to how the monitor audio speakers sound.. so different Very very nice ! The best diffusor, worth every single penny spent Can’t imagine pairing this with the lyngdorf Mp50 There is two in front, energy radiates to left right, then surrounds have 1 each, radiate Again to back of MLP , the 3D soundfield is unbelievable Only thing is the TV feels very small suddenly,65” like too small for the sound I’m hearing ...
ronildoq Posted December 28, 2018 Author Posted December 28, 2018 Boxer! Definitely not like the above ! Hahaha... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ronildoq Posted December 29, 2018 Author Posted December 29, 2018 Two more 60x60 pieces white, goes behind the white tv console flanking the centre channel, sits in between the mains... That’s it for the SMT journey.... next is listening ... can’t wait.... busy weekend Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ronildoq Posted December 31, 2018 Author Posted December 31, 2018 Next continued to seal off the room doors with batwings and this mini rubber gel thingy that blocks out noise at the bottom of the doors, had it in and out of the room... Door slightly tighter to open close, make sure not too tight, double sided material that blocks out all the little holes... so much improvement now on Noise Floor.... Getting to the levels I want now... much much lower noise floor now... Cost usd8/piece from amazon, simple to use and effective , brought down the noise floor a great deal, prevents insects from coming in, improves air conditioner air flow from leaking, Delighted indeed....
