For very dirty used vinyl or even new vinyl with chemicals, I prefer to handwash using tap water and a liquid detergent to scrub away the stubborn stain. I will use my ultrasonic cleaner for a second wash with deionised water after that.

I use Earth liquid detergent. Which "safe" detergent do you all use besides Mama lemon for handwash?

Hi there

If it is indeed 'dirty used vinyl', before you do any scrubbing, it would be good if you rinse the LP under warm running spray to remove any abrasive particles; as these can act as scouring agent and scratch the surface of of the LP or worse, depending on the aggressiveness applied.

Mama lemon should be fine.

Cheers

Whilst taking into account the comment above re abrasive particles I don't think the make of detergent matters too much, just so long as it's a clear and non abrasive liquid. I would ,however, say that a distilled water wash/rinse is essential as a lot of "washing up liquid" is thickened with salt and that's not going to improve fidelity if it's left to dry on the vinyl.

Hi there,

Tried to get distilled water from 7-eleven store recently.  They do not carry anymore.

Any idea where I can get hold of distilled water?

Thanks.

Order from RedMart distilled water and they send the whole carton (8 large bottles) to your house all for $5!!!.. Go to their website.

No need to huff and puff all the way back.

Is it necessary to wash brand new vinyls before playing first time?

Depending  on who you are asking, there are releasing agent in the vinyl for easy separation between  vinyl and stamper but normally  I am too eager to a new vinyl to do what's right.

Not worth the price; go Daiso buy vacuum attachment hose, and DIY: cut holes + stick velvet pads ....

For mouldy LP, I do an alcohol pre-wash to kill the spore. Then main wash with L'Art du Son if not so dirty. This wash leaves a very pleasant fragrance in room and on record. If very dirty, then I use Mint or Nessie solutions.

Hmmm makes sense....however considering i dont have cleaning machine, went ahead and ordered this last weekend...

Dont have a cleaning machine yet....usually get mine cleaned at Zenn Audio....but expensive.

Last weekend, got delivery of a brand new LP (eagles HFO 25th Ann) which was clean when i started playing. After playing, I happened to leave it on platter for few hours without covering (usually, i cover but this time, missed out). The amount of lint on the record when i came back was unbelievable. So took a plunge and got this for 30 USD. Delivery next week....lets see
