Jagdpanzer Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I have seen many record clamps advertised esp. those metal fanciful ones from China. I was keen in the Mofi clamps but the unexpectedly ridiculous price puts me off. Does such clamp of different brands make a huge difference? Recommend me one.
Guest francishuang Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Clamp makes a lot of difference, changes the sound quite a bit. Loan different clamps to try, it's quite system dependent and of course, personal preferences play a part.
blue_starfish Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I am assuming that you are asking about light-weight clamps per se and not weights. Michell have a reasonably priced record clamp that grips the spindle and forces the record flat onto the mat. Usually used in conjunction with carbon fibre mats. The clamp itself does not change the sound much. Once you go into record weights (not recommended for sprung decks) and stabilisers, the cost can run into $n,nnn. E.g Harmonix weight TU812. These change the sound a lot. However it is one man's meat, is another man's poison. Try before you buy.
Jagdpanzer Posted July 23, 2020 Author Posted July 23, 2020 I've used a Linn LP12 in the past so I do not need a clamp. Now that I changed my TT to an idler wheel TT, I'm curious about the performance using a clamp. But as you know, we cannot try it before purchase here. I just don't want to buy the wrong clamp, ending up as a paper weight.
malsound Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 I am have the HRS Analog Disk record weight, just love what it does fuller tone fast on and off. There is also some synergy going on between record mat and weight. Btw there is a brother in our mix with a full suitcase of exotic record wt and clamps and it will very interesting to hear from his experiences.
Guest Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 On a related note, is there any record clamp/weight that reduces warp? I find that recently many of the newer records have some warp. Very irritating.
zephyr11 Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 ^^^^^^^^^ thought i was the only one. i've gotten a clearaudio concept, and also looking to get a decent clamp, currently using one from TB. saw one from clearaudio that kindda matches the concept, about $150. is that a decent price for one? or are there any other recommendations for about that price range?
FG Chong Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 On a related note, is there any record clamp/weight that reduces warp? I find that recently many of the newer records have some warp. Very irritating. I used the clamp from Clear Audio for all my wrap records. It works pretty well.
blue_starfish Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 On a related note, is there any record clamp/weight that reduces warp? I find that recently many of the newer records have some warp. Very irritating. Get the Michell clamp costing about $100. It is light, so will not mess up the balance of the sprung suspension. It presses down on the record label edge via a screw-down grip onto the spindle.
Wildrain Posted July 24, 2020 Posted July 24, 2020 What about Rega decks? Any recommendations or experience with clamps?
Jagdpanzer Posted July 24, 2020 Author Posted July 24, 2020 I think we need to differentiate between record clamp and heavy record stabilizer. Not all TT can take the weight of record stabilizer.

No wonder the mofi weight so X, HRS is the oem. Luckily I got my early when there wasn't much review on them, the price has nearly triple.
kelyeo Posted August 8, 2020 Posted August 8, 2020 I use a fo.Q RS-33 on my Garrard 401/FR64S/Koetsu. It's surprising light but improves (changes?) the sound to my liking. Not too expansive too. Also tried it on my DPS 3 and it bettered the original clamp.
Chowbotak Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Anyone using those outer rings? Was thinking of getting one but changed my mind, dont want to add another layer of chore for vinyl playback
Guest francishuang Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 It works, just get the clearaudio one for ur ca tt. Fitment is top notch. Nxt best alternative to vacuum suction. But like u said, usage can be quite ley chey. Gota get use to it Anyone using those outer rings? Chowbotak Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Oh dear, here comes the poisoning... thanks bro ;D

zephyr11 Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 ^^^^^^^^ interesting, this is new i suppose? i'm using their mat, and it is quite good. though i don't have much to compare from, only with, and without.

But like u said, usage can be quite ley chey. Gota get use to it Bro I got the Outer Limit ring clamp. I wonder if it is ok if I stop the platter everytime I want to flip or change records. I see some ppl can remove or put the ring on while the platter is turning :D
Guest francishuang Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 Up to oneself. Initially will stop the platter. After more used to it, naturally will do it when the platter is moving. Things only get more complicated when having multiple arms. Gota nagviate more carefully during placement. Bro I got the Outer Limit ring clamp. I wonder if it is ok if I stop the platter everytime I want to flip or change records. I see some ppl can remove or put the ring on while the platter is turning :D
Chowbotak Posted September 20, 2020 Posted September 20, 2020 Ok, done it! Not as difficult as I thought. I was concerned that switching the rotating on and off so many times may not be good for the motor. On another note, I thought the Oyaide record stabilizer advertised by X Audio recently could be a good recommendation as a record clamp. Its weight adjustable and it also act as an adapter for 7" records without the spindle hole
zephyr11 Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 https://www.hifi-advice.com/blog/review/analog-reviews/origin-live-turntable-record-weight/ did anyone get this? also is it avail locally?
