wasabijim Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Anyone else watching? certainly eats into late night listening was good seeing Cavendish take the stage, not so good all the spills and Caleb go down and out. Hoping to see Matthews in the mix for a stage win or day in the green. also hoping Richie can real himself back into GC contention, but not expecting much. he'd need to pull off some under the radars attacks then have the team throw their weight behind him outright
warweary Posted July 1, 2021 Posted July 1, 2021 Le Tour is all about the bikes and the legs that grind them... 1

wasabijim Posted July 2, 2021 Author Posted July 2, 2021 stage 7 and we have a pretty large break away including yellow and green jersey, but nothing for the Oz contingency... then again as established that's not necessary what its all about Sagan. what's happening there? is his the (over due) end of his reign?
maximus Posted July 2, 2021 Posted July 2, 2021 Love bike racing, the Tour as a whole and the incredible camera work, best memories Phil Anderson, Bernard Hinault to Amstrong and Ulrich and all the way up to Cadel and the Flack bros. 2
wasabijim Posted July 4, 2021 Author Posted July 4, 2021 has anyone ever made it over to watch a stage or two live?
mrbuzzardstubble Posted July 4, 2021 Posted July 4, 2021 Yes, I have Australian rider Ben O'Connor of W.A won a mountain stage (9) this morning. Well done, young man. 2

No, I don't think so. He's riding at an Armstrong/Landis/Ricco/Pantani level, far above anyone else. In his defence, he was a cycling prodigy at an early age however it's unusual to see someone so young so far above his peers, without 'assistance'. 3
teagle Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 Hope the suspicions re Pogacar are ill founded, as have enjoyed the riding of the young guns now in the race, even old man Cavendish has spiced things up in the race for the Green Jersey. Shame the crashes have damaged so many, hopefully, the main contenders make it to Paris. Ben O'Connor certainly put in a huge effort yesterday, interested to see how he recovers, great to have a local involved. Now what am I going to watch tonight? 1
wasabijim Posted July 5, 2021 Author Posted July 5, 2021 yeah gusty fantastic effort from O'Connor and good seeing various GC potentials attacking this early and not just relying on the team to merely keep them in the running, just a petty it seems Pogacar has this wrapped up really hope it's raw talent and smarts powering them legs 1

Statistically every few years an outstanding natural talent can be expected to emerge. Tadej Pogačar is outstanding, not just in his innate athleticism but perhaps more importantly in his character. My hope is the humiliating fall of Lance, combined with the long term doping retesting protocols that re-screen for novel performance drugs substances, will put the old drug culture into obsolescence. I feel for the riders who were caught up in the "normal" of that long standing performance enhancing culture. They were dammed if they did and dammed if they didn't. Some good man were ruined. 2
warweary Posted July 5, 2021 Posted July 5, 2021 We should move onwards from belief that performance enhancing substances are unfair. In life outside of athletics/sport, performance enhancing substances are accepted, acknowledged and used widely. Only in athletics/sport do we hold a belief against performance enhancing substances. I am personally for performance enhancing substances, used under appropriate care. We have built up a myth around being "natural" as worthwhile of itself. It's BS.
warweary Posted July 6, 2021 Posted July 6, 2021 I picked Cav from way out, his positioning was perfect tonight. Perfect lead out.
wasabijim Posted July 7, 2021 Author Posted July 7, 2021 I'm really liking Alaphilippe in this regard. Sure he's in the world champ stripes so he stands out more in the white. but i see him working hard and smart, but not just for himself. He's coordinating the team and really getting behind Cav. He could just play the French (snob) card or use the opening stage win to justify doing his own thing. As you say, perfect lead out from way out. and far from the old Sky 8-man train, crush all competition, approach 1
