The DAC can convert audio up to 24bit 192khz .... but like most "cheap" DACs it has a noise floor of around -100dB meaning that anything quiter than what is on a CD (eg. anything quieter than around -100dB) will just be lost in the noise. 1
Niktech Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 Obviously not good for critical listening then, but it seems it would be alright for casual listening when you’re walking the dog or out for a run.

Pretty much what it was designed for.. no one is expecting a $30 DAC to be the cornerstone of a high end audio system being fed off a smartphone.

Hi-Fi Whipped Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 If we are talking about a $15 dongle dac being the way we all listen to high res from Apple Music in our homes it pretty much sums up the short comings. when integrating into a decent hifi system, Apple is without doubt the worst streaming option out there, I’ve tried to enjoy it but draining the battery on my phone to listen to music in my home is crazy. Yeh sure plug the iPad in and use that, but then you have to go back to the iPad to change a song! the sooner Spotify jump into hifi the better IMO. 3
Nickelle Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 I don't know if its been mentioned previous to this post but a big draw card to be using Apple could be from Telstra, Data-free music streaming Enjoy data-free music streaming of Apple Music, only with Telstra. Access over 50 million songs, totally ad-free. Apple Music requires an additional subscription. Video streaming and non-music content will incur data charges. FairPlay policy applies. For use in Australia. Free Data from Telstra when using Apple. Not likely to draw me though. 1

Is it really a concern anymore with higher data caps and ability to download a fairly extensive music library onto your phone. Maybe an issue I guess if you mostly stream if hi-rez music but why would you do that 100% of the time. JDH Edited July 24, 2021 by jdh500
betty boop Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 probably significant for me not sure for others but thanks to headsup from @ figjam it seems we have the update come through or Astell & Kern DAP's for lossless and it seems hi-res as well mighty pleased here ... I downloaded the updated app and greeted with ... made sure to select lossless... in the settings... and lossless is showing up first track selected... also with curiosity seeker out hotel california and its coming through as 24/48 lossless ALAC all other tracks so far are coming through in 16/44 lossless... i dont know if this means other android devices also have this ability now to play natively and stream not only lossless and hi-res ? the thing with the A&K DAP in this case it has a very high quality dac as well on board so if wanted to i could hook this upto the hifi to stream lossless and hi-res to my hifi off the apple library.... so not just reliant on airplay to blue sound or apple tv... 1
betty boop Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 further advice from @figjam and yep its possible to enable 24/192 hi-res lossless on the A&K daps as well for apple music... 2
Niktech Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 (edited) Just loaded Apple Music on a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and I’m playing the Doors at 24/96 kHz. The album is 192khz, but the DAC in the Note8 doesn’t do 192 so it was downsampled Edited July 24, 2021 by Niktech Autocorrect errors 1
Niktech Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 (edited) If you have an Android Tv box such as an Nvidia Shield TV, you should be able to use the Apple Music app and play high res 192 kHz. The Shield has an optical out which could be connected to a DDC or DAC. Shield Tv has both a physical remote and an app remote. I didn’t get a chance to try this weekend. Guest Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 I’m assuming, looking at the iTunes app on my iPad, that you can’t buy lossless albums outright, only streaming?

Chigurh Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 I've just noticed that an Apple Music app can be installed onto Samsung TVs. The more options the better IMO.

I’m having the opposite experience with Apple Music. The 2021 Bluesound Node providing 44.1/96/176.4/192 KHz Alac lossless with use of iPhone6s. Phone not running out of battery charge too quickly ; great remote device. If it gets low recharge point is where l sit.

I wondered that also but I didn't know Apple Music was available in BluOS yet, and I thought AirPlay was limited to the lower KHz, that's why I'm curious how it's being achieved? 2
