7smurfs Posted August 5, 2021 Posted August 5, 2021 Anyone got replacement cable recommendations for the Sundara? Stock cables are absolute trash!

Good fun activity. Set a budget and see what's around. Koala Cables is a new Aus store. They look good. Be the same Mogami or Canare Mini Quad Mic cable used in Peridpt / Hart audio cables.
nowallet Posted August 10, 2021 Posted August 10, 2021 @arpasquill Hello! What are your thoughts on the Sundara? Considering it for my upcoming upgrade

Would highly recommend - have tried many other dynamics and they just don't compare according to my ears. What do you currently own?

It's also a planar - I've enjoyed it for 3-4 years now. I have some other IEMs for portable use including the first gen Sennheiser True Wireless in-ears (fantastic sound quality for a TW-IEM).
AbeShark Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 Owned HE4xx, then Sundara, then Ananda, then Arya, then Arya v2, now own the HE-1000v2. The HE-1000SE I’ve heard is more detail oriented than musical but the Susvara is tempting. Thinking about trying out the HE400SE just to hear what difference the stealth magnets actually make.

Just pulled the trigger on the Ananda Hard lockdowns are hard on the wallet. Any amp and cable recommendations for the Ananda? Also, has anyone relied on EQ to change the tonal balance of their Ananda? I'm considering foregoing the amp for a Schiit Loki Mini Edited August 17, 2021 by nowallet forgot to ask a second question!
nowallet Posted August 20, 2021 Posted August 20, 2021 The Ananda is on my head! It's so huge I think an earcup swallowed my big head. Love everything except this cable - can anyone recommend a better one?

I have two simple setups that do the job: my main one is at my desk where I work - I have the Topping L30/E30 stack there (mostly feeding it music files from my NAS through Jriver). I also have my Cambridge CXA60 integrated amp that seems to have a very nice headphone output - that's used when everyone goes to bed and I can just sit in the armchair with no outside noise interrupting the experience!). What's your setup like? 1

I've heard very good things about that topping combo - real VFM My headphone setup is a pair of Focal Elegias and Audio Technica M40x, Audio GD R2R11 DAC/Amp combo, fed from a Fiio DAP Edited August 25, 2021 by anandpkumar

7smurfs Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Just a dumb question - can you run a balanced cable without a balanced output?
Neo Posted August 26, 2021 Posted August 26, 2021 Yes, in the end it will be an adapter with a 6.35mm plug on one end and the other balanced plug. Neo
deafenears Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 @Bengineer, how are you enjoying the Susvaras (not one but two or more!) ?

AbeShark Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 (edited) Bought and sent back the HE00SE. Did not like them, they were a bit piercing to my ears. Detail wise etc they were great, but yeah preferred my HD560S to them. I finally bit the bullet and bought the Susvara directly from HiFiMan. They're here now and they're heavenly - and this is just out of my Jot 2. I am going to give them the power they deserve, have just preordered the Burson Soloist 3X Grand Tourer - 10W fully class A with a sub-out too. And then I'm done with gear.] Will put the Jot 2 for sale but I need a DAC (although don't want to spend too much, looking at the Gustard X16). Edited September 28, 2021 by AbeShark 1

HIfiman offers the same upgrade program, bam. Enjoy! They aren't hard to get loud, but do scale with equipment obviously. 1
AbeShark Posted September 28, 2021 Posted September 28, 2021 Susvara upgrades are living in my head rent-free!
SilverWolf Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 (edited) Jumping in the HiFiMan thread now with the ED XS, I'm enjoying them...Have listened to a few but my first pair I own..... Don't seem to need a lot of power but they ain't shy to enjoying as much as you can throw at em..lol Edited January 25, 2022 by SilverWolf 1
CryptiK Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 All these baller Susvara owners yikes. It’s weird though y’all spend hard on headphones then penny pinch on amps… My baby susvaras: 3
kenohwee Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 (edited) Good day, first time opening a discussion and I'm very new to the world of audio so apologies in advance if this was already discussed somewhere I was able to save enough to purchase a headphone which a lot of people had high praises for, the Hifiman He1000v2. The first week upon receiving it was amazing, however going into the second week, songs started to sound sibilant and cymbals sounded more piercing than usual and that is now the standard sound of these headphones which was not present to begin with. I've read and watched a lot of reviews about this headphone and while everyone talks about how bright this headphone can be but they always mention that this headphone just stops short from being overly bright so I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue with their set of he1000v2 where it has gotten sibilant? I was using the schiit modi and magni stack for this headphone and the knob has always remain as 2-3 o clock. I even switched to Topping Dx7 pro to test this issue out and i think it got worse. For the topping it's currently at -24DB. They're both on low gain, switching to high gain doesn't help at all. I like listening to music at a higher volume and the sibilant is more tolerable at a much lower volume but it just sounds really soft and low to me I'm currently at a loss at the moment. Is this a driver issue? Is the He1000v2 always this sibilant to begin with? Is it a common thing where you can't listen to these headphones at higher volumes due to its brightness? Any help, feedback, advice or confirmation would be very much appreciated. I look forward to hearing from any of you and thank you for you time Edited May 21, 2022 by kenohwee
Bengineer Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Not many reviewers are worth watching. 99% will say "treble never reaches the point of sibilance". IMO its all a crock of ****. The HE1000V2 and SE are quite bright. If you play music from a PC, or via Roon, you can try EQ. Better matching to source gear will help too, what you listed isn't exactly warm leaning. Barring those helping, you just have a fairly bright headphone. Long term might just be best to sell and aim for something a bit more relaxed. Its also worth figuring out what frequencies bug you. You may think its upper treble, when in fact its 3000hz or so.
kenohwee Posted May 21, 2022 Posted May 21, 2022 Hi Bengineer, thanks very much for your reply and feedback. That's a shame, I've only managed to read ONE review out of the multiple review which talks about this phone being bright but no reviews mention about sibilance at all. I thought i'm having driver issues or a faulty headphone I'll try to read/research about EQ as I do listen via PC and I'll see what other amps are more warm sounding. Do you perhaps have any suggestions of which software to use or a warmer sounding amp/dac gear? Also, sorry for asking this but how would one determine that? (Finding out which frequencies would bug them) Is there a website where you can test each frequency responses at each level or it's a matter of listening to all kinds of music and just figuring it out though I still wouldn't know how you'd determine that through listening to music alone Thanks again for your time. I look forward to your response
