Thought with all the worries of enforced confinement, currently through much of our great land - a nice pic might help cheer some up! 😀

This is "Patchy" waiting for his (twice) daily feed !

Where to start Clive, we have them everywhere!  The boys live inside with free reign of the house.  Outside are the chickens, destroying the backyard one plant at a time. Crow and his wife nest in our big eucalyptus and steal the chicken eggs. Thousands of Lorries visit daily along with four generations of Galahs, all born in our nesting box. Adelaide and Eastern Rosellas also visit constantly and use our nesting boxes and the original residents, Mr and Mrs Blackbird who have spawned countless chicks in the backyard.

@Ooogh LOL,  I did have you in mind when I created this thread!,

Figured I'd start my own one rather than intrude on your "World's luckiest Budgerigar" one, but appreciate your contribution!,😉

I remember well your "menagerie of all things feathered" on my visit a seemingly lifetime ago - last year pre Pestilence.

I feel so inadequate now, with my relatively sparse range of pets! 😂

This is our young Meriadoc "Merry" having a paddle in his wading pool.

Peter Paul and Mary did a good riff on"Our Great Land" so did Woody Guthrie who wrote the famous song, "This Land Is Your Land"

Parrots don't feature heavily in it but if they had them I'm sure he'd of featured them.

"Patchy" is a fine bird, wd.

Where did you get the idea to feed parrots?😉

Hi @Ooogh, any interest in the nesting boxes? For years I have been meaning to put a few high up in some gums on a Railway embankment over our backfence. I’ll be too old soon! We are in Sydenham and there were a lot more species here when we moved here 20yrs ago  than now unfortunately. Not sure why but pretty sure the usual suspects play a part.

Photo is another King unfortunately and not as tame as yours. This is one of a pair that has been visiting our feeder for the last week. We have never seen this species before, interesting. Regards

Great work @Pebbles, you must be a trapeze artist to get that feeder up so high! @Luc and @evil c are the King Parrot experts, unfortunately we don’t get them here in Adelaide.

If you cannot find a use for your boxes I am happy to purchase them from you, our native birds need all the help they can get with the loss of so many old trees. and those rotten Mynas.

I do wish I was still spending lots of time in Central Australia, the word is that after really good rains this year Budgie flocks are huge a present, they really are one of the greatest sights I have ever seen.

Thanks @Ooogh, I haven’t made any boxes  yet but can as I have a workshop. Installing the  feeder involved putting a long ladder against the wattyl in the background and doing something Bugs Bunny would have been proud of...cutting through the branch it was leaning on. The ladder didn’t move far luckily but it was a short sharp lesson! Love the budgie flocks, I have seen them out west after good conditions but not in their current numbers.

I've got heaps more if you're interested, although mine answer to slightly different names. Their scientific name seems apt: Turdus merula.

My Cockateils have toilet trained me , l wear old clothes (with my trackies of course)! 😉

Had this Burra visit us yesterday, all l had was bacon - which he didn't care for! 😬

He must be a fussy Kookaburra Clive, I thought they would love a bacon treat! Certainly a fine looking bird, might have gone a bit heavy on the mascara though.

He was indeed, and a very chilled bird!

Quite happy to pose for the camera, !

And with the extra Mascara mightn't have been male after all. 😂

We had a pair of black cockatoos visit a couple of weeks ago. Strong candidate for my favourite bird, but a rare-ish sighting here. They dig Hakea.

Speaking of rare birds, can anyone offer advice on rehousing the birds which have nested in my roof before they become endangered? Yep, right above my system, so they annoy me by day and I keep them awake at night. They already have young and I'm not heartless, so my next step is to find out if they can be relocated. I'm not sure of the breed as yet, probably just obnoxious mynors, but nonetheless...

We have a lot of maggies in our neighbourhood because everyone, including me, feeds them. They don't even kick their young out, so plentiful is the food, there are multi generational families cohabiting. It's almost like Centrelink sponsorship of sorts. That being so, they may also have a go at the relocated young I'm trying to free myself from.

Any ideas?

Suck it up , they'll be gone before long!

I have a blackbird nest in a tree outside my bedroom, and always wake me up at the crack of dawn! 😕

They can't be relocated without effectively terminating them, wait until they're gone then remove remnants of nest and block off access for next time . 😊

Have a fair few species nesting here at the moment; Boobook Owls in a hollow in a big bloodwood in the backyard, Currawongs (could do without them)Noisy minors(and them), Striated Pardalotes are fairly abundant this year and they have dug a tunnel into a mound and are nesting, hopefully the pythons wont get them.

These blokes are nesting too. This is a pic of a baby that surprised me last year as I took pics of my fav rainforest tree in full bloom. I don't know who got the biggest scare.

image.thumb.jpeg.735ddda986566096390317baa8403b2c.jpeg

One more pic of this  showy tree.

image.thumb.png.bc419e1911a31cf6ace379dd2ea78bf7.png

Scaly-breasted lorikeets are nesting as well

Scaly-breasted Lorikeet stock photo. Image of bird ...

Pythons like this one that a friend gave meimage.thumb.jpeg.d5a5c9a787006be73313a1a97e1240b9.jpeg have been having a field day dining out on rainbow lorikeets which I don't mind at all as they are almost as much of a pest as noisy minors.

The pythons will lay in the gutters and just wait for the lorikeets to land and...bam! Gone very quickly usually, same things happen with King parrots occasionally, I've got a pic of one being taken but I can't find it.

Channel billed cuckoos arrived about a month and a half ago and they are loud, raucous birds, The species is the largest brood parasite in the world, and the largest cuckoo (Wiki). They come in and lay their eggs in Currawong and crows nests and take off and let the  host birds raise the young. They're a big bird, here's a stock photo of one.

Channel-billed Cuckoo (Scythrops novaehollandiae) - ZooChat

The currawong must wonder wtf is going on here, this baby is yuge!https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-33YrgtVnVps/Usod4hXAakI/AAAAAAAAHWQ/jttEvvyg4os/s1600/channel-billed+cuckoo+juv+&+pied+currawong1.JPG

There's fan tailed cuckoos nesting as well but  too far in the  bushy areas here to clearly see the nest.

Wow, a cornucopia of wildlife Luc. You are very lucky. That Channel Bill Cuckoo may just eat the Currawong!

Bit of both Andrew. Look one way from the house and it's suburbia, look the other way and it's the bush or a large pocket of it anyway. Near 30 years of planting trees and disposing of cats(sorry moggy owners but they're murderous pests on my block)  have encouraged the birds and wildlife to hang here. Over the past few years Land Mullets have arrived here or returned which has been great, they're a fantastic thing to see when you can spy them.

Ha, I had to google land mullet. It is wonderful to see how little encouragement species need to recover and succeed, just give them access to some suitable habitat without introduced predators. And it is equally dismaying to see it is more often disappearing than being restored. More strength to you Luc.

Was looking back at some photos and found these from our trip to Cape Tribulation, back in May.

Didn't get a single horn blast for the entire 20 minutes we were stuck behind daddy and chick - pretty sure they were picking up some road-kill.

You did very well to see them, let alone get such great pics!

Wife and I saw a Dad and chick crossing around Cape Tribulation a couple of years back.

Local told us they'd never, ever seen so very lucky! 😉
