Would love to hear people’s experience and thoughts on Conrad Johnson gear. I have recently purchased a premier 17ls line stage preamp. Haven’t received it yet but I’m hoping it works well with my setup.

I have the MV-50 and absolutely love it. It's one of my favourite EL34 amps of all time. I also owned the P12 monos but parted with them because of wife pressures asking which mono I preferred. 😂

If I had to recommend a CJ power amp it would be the MV-75. CJ back then offered something special in their tube designs. They refined the 5751 and 6CG7 configuration and moved away from EL34 use to 6550 use Their PTFE caps were legendary.

For the preamp, their best model was the Premier Two with the 12X4 rectifier and an assortment of 9-pin minis - on offer is a tube rollers' paradise.

I just bought a set of gold lions and rolled them in yesterday. Straight away from the first note you could tell how much better it sounded over the original tubes in them which were 6922 electro harmonix.

Give them 100+ hours burn in time to evaluate their true tonal character.

Are you interested in giving vintage ones a try or prefer using modern priduction?

At the moment im happy to keep the gold lions in there or at least until the tubes settle in. What vintage tubes did you have in mind?

Happy to suggest a few if you let me know your preferred listening tastes and genre of music. 👍

I like all types of music. I love vocal and instruments like guitar and bass. But i couldnt pick one genre because my music selection is too diverse. Im open to any suggestions.

Since we're getting into no budget territory, I could add Kirk's previous suggestion of Standard Radio & Telefon 33S30 valve made in Sweden here https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/224582123633.

Or the cheaper version of 33S30 valve, i.e. RCA red base 5692 here https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/324766608756. In my system the RCA sounds terrific. I would have bought these but they are not my priorities nowadays.

Fortunately I don't use these types, but if I did and had the budget, well! 😃

Maybe it is unfortunate, as the octel signal tubes are lovely things 🥰

Well you're in luck as the GEC 6X5G brigade is out on you for your little project. 🤭

Edit: My mistake. Changed the 9-pin mini to an 8-pin octal.

Hi guys do you have any experience with a CJ ET3 SE?
There’s one up for sale.

I’d like to match it with a SS amp to drive my Maggies.
I’m looking for the warm , lush , 3D sound .
Any thoughts whether I get this kind of sound from this preamp.

Thanks in advance
