Possible to join the queue for Pontus?

i want to join the Q for Pontus too.

currently with DA&T A38 internal DAC.

okay added.

Please note that there is no standard pins configuration when using i2s so even if both your CDT and DAC is using RJ45 for i2S, they may not be compatible.

Hi Alvin,

I would like to join the Pontus tour. Interested to see it working with my CDP via I2S.

I thought iS2 is HDMI cable? Not RJ45?

So far it's either HDMI or RJ45. HDMI is typically I2S LVDS. And, yes, there's no standard so you need to check with manufacturer on the signal assignments. Might have to do custom cables to get I2S to work.

Been using standard HDMI for all my iS2 connections.....

Yup, that is why I want to test whether it works with the Project i2s. Else I will have to use AES/EBU coax or optical should I change my DAC to the Pontus.

Would a USB reclocker be useful or DENAFRIPS has the latest gen USB card?

DENAFRIPS DAC (except for ares) stores the digital input audio data into its FIFO high speed RAM buffer. These audio data are then extracted by using it's internal generated clock via active crystal (LDO powered). Theoretically it eliminates the upstream source jitter completely.

These extracted audio data stream feed into R2R DA conversion via i2s protocol.

Many bros would agree DENAFRIPS DAC sounds really good as it is without the need of USB reclocker.

Thanks found the thread

Not sure man. When my flagship Terminator arrives, I bring it to watchdog place AB test with his TotalDAC. Can?

I am new to this forum. While I occasionally enjoy reading forums I don't usually spend a lot of time posting.

In this case, I joined and am now posting because I am interested in the Terminator.

Alvin, you stated that when you had finished the break-in of the Terminator you were going to compare it with a TotalDac. Have you gotten around yet to making the comparison? If you have, I would be very interested in hearing your thoughts.

Hi Alvin,

Prior to my previous post I had quickly scanned this thread. Upon reading more carefully I just realized now that you are Vineshine Audio.

So let me start out by thanking you for sending Claudio De Pasquale the Terminator for use in an audition tour here in Italy.  I am the next one on the list to audition it in my home and I should be getting it sometime next week. I chose to be second on the list so that by the time it gets to me it will have perhaps more than 300 hours of time on it. So it will be primed for a really good audition and I will have about 8 days to really try it out and compare it to my present DAC. I am very much looking forward to the experience.

Now I have 2 more questions.

1) My understanding of the Terminator is that it is not modular. If there should be improvements to the design of the Terminator... updates... in the future will these upgrades be made available to those who already own the Terminator? And if so, how would these upgrades be handled. Would it be necessary to send the DAC back to Vinshine for the upgrade?

2) Several people have expressed concern about the use of so many caps. They are wondering how, if any of the caps should go bad (even only one) how it would be possible to determine which one and would it be necessary to send it all the way back to you for the repair?

One more question, please, Alvin

What about MQA. Are there any plans to upgrade the Terminator to where it will support MQA playback?

Hi Peter,

Sorry for late reply. It's a long weekend holiday in Singapore :)

Claudio is a good friend who bought the first DENAFRIPS DAC in Italy, he subsequently grows the DENAFRIPS family, encouraged and believing that the DENAFRIPS DAC is good. He's the admin of Italian largest audiophile Facebook group Audiofili d'Italia, a season audiophile in his 50s owns a lot of high end gears in his HiFi cave. There are approx 50 person in Italy own the DENAFRIPS DAC, thanks to Claudio!

The demo Terminator is with Nicola now, it should be shipped to you next week.

To answer your question:

1. The DSP board is modular. If there is upgrade of the firmware, it can easily be replaced by the owner.

2. The caps are well known brand with high reliability and long endurance time. We don't foresee the caps will be faulty. Fact is DENAFRIPS DAC rail voltage are low, the caps withstand voltage is almost double of the power rail voltage. Also the heat is low, we can be sure the caps will last :)

3. Unfortunately, MQA will not be supported...
