@xlr8orHi Kirk,

           I was hoping you may be able to find me a pair of 12au7's or similar for use in either PrimaLuna or PS Audio gear.    Silver Audiophile has got me into some wonderful valves but I figure he may be sick of me annoying him all the time.

            Any help would be mostly appreciated.

Regards,

         Paul

Hi Paul

What are the PL and PS Audio amp models?

Cheers

Hi Steven valve,

        Thanks for the info.   I'll definitely look into those.  Unfortunately I'm not that knowledgeable about what particular valves are better.

         I'll check these variants for sure.

@xlr8orHi Kirk,

            Sorry, I should have been more specific in the gear Im using.

At this stage I would like to only change the 12au7 valves in my PS Audio BHK preamp. I know these suit many variations of the 12au7 valve but was hoping you would be able to help get the most suitable valve available.

             It seems the consensus of opinion on the stock Psvane 12au7  in the BHK pre are a bit bright and edgy with most people tending to tube roll them.  That's where I was hoping you may find something.

               As always any help mostly appreciated.

Regards,

          Paul

This is the best pair I can find at the moment. Both tubes were made in the Brimar Footscray UK factory in the 3rd week of December 1953. I don't think an E80CC will fit into the PSA BHK Signature preamp as it's height is too tall.

@xlr8orHi Kirk,

        Thanks for the heads up on these.  I have little experience when purchasing off ebay particularly when it's going  to auction.

         I also sent you a pm.

Thanks again.

Very popular 12AX7 variant, some say it's better?

Not this one, Will. If you're wanting Sylvania made 5751's, it's the triple mica black plate ones with standard pins you want. The Raytheon windmill getter (often labelled with red print) from the 1960's is the best sounding one of the lot.

Ahh good to know Kirk, thanks. I got the gold pins but they are ordinary so I was wondering what the fuss was about. Yep, Raytheon windmill getter I got two or three pairs of those 👍

Just a note about being careful when tube rolling in the bhk. You would be best sticking to 12au7 and direct variations. And also 6922 and 7v tubes are fine as long as you adjust the voltage and current jumpers inside the unit. If in doubt have a look in the PS Audio forums as people have made lots of enquiries on there about suitable tubes. It's an expensive preamp and is be super cautious trying anything outside of the designated tube types.

Hi @xlr8or Kirk,

         Unfortunately I missed out on this pair.   I got a few bids in amongst the rush at the end.  The price went from$80 to $150 within about a minute.  I just couldn't get my bid on!!!!

         Thanks again for your help.

Beautiful WW2 era NIB NOS Sylvania 7N7 tubes (6SN7 tube substitute requiring a locktal to octal tube adapter) from July 1943 going for sale on eBay. Although the shipping cost is very pricey if you were to buy 6 or more tubes the deal looks very attractive:

All sold out last night, 20 of them! I wonder how many were sold to Willsenton valve amp owners 😁

Great stuff Kirk 👍🏻

Behold the masterpiece of 5687 technology. A first generation Tung-Sol 5687 from 1949 with the vertical square getter post and huge copper grid posts. You cannot get any better than this for sonic bliss from a 5687. It's very rare to see this tube go for the current listed price. Peter Qvortrup's most favourite sounding tube.
