Never realized what a big difference RCA cables can make.

Tried a few different cables between phono pre and integrated amp, they all sound different. The cheapest QED (profile) sound great to me.

Between the CD player and AMP the Mogami 2549 is a great performer but this same cable used for the preamp to amp sounds harsh and brittle, beats me.

What do you mean by a "phono pre", Alan:

  • a phono stage - which you are using to play vinyl through your integrated amp (which only has line level inputs)?
  • or a head amp - so you can use a LOMC with the MM phono stage in your integrated amp?

The Phono Preamp (external phono stage) ie Rega Fono Mini Andy.

To my ears the external phono is greatly impacted by the cable used.

Hard to see why a Rega Fono Mini should be more sensitive to the RCA interconnects used on its output sockets than any other phono stage.

It's output impedance is described as being a nice low 100 ohms ... perhaps it just doesn't have a good output buffer?  Can you try any other phono stages for a comparison (as to their sensitivity to interconnects, in your system)?

 Hi Alan,

Also believe that cables do make a difference, can be juded as good, bad, indifferent, but i always look at it as what i prefer. Other say flatly, cables make no difference, i respect their opinion. It's like all audio equipment you audition, they sound different for many reasons
