Hello guys,

I am looking to add a subwoofer to my stereo setup. Could anyone please help me with what to have for phase and frequency cut off in sub woofer?

Attached my listining setup. Subwoofer is in line with speakers.

Thank you

Have a look at Rel's setup videos on YT.  Are you adding a 2nd sub or are you asking where to position the sub in the pic?  If doing by ear, then put the sub at your listening position and do the sub crawl method. Keep the crossover at the middle. Once you have located where it sounds best, dial in the phase (either a dial or switch) to be in phase or out of phase (see which one is the loudest to you at the lcation).  Now drop the crossover of the sub down until it blends in with your mains.  As you have floorstanders, this might be around 50hz or lower...see what sounds best to you.

Thanks Mr Burns, I am just adding a subwoofer to my stereo setup.

It's a 1st sub, I am placing the sub in the corner. Just looking to adjust correct setting on the sub.

Second cheer for DSP:

I have the basic model. It's idiot-proof so it suits me perfectly. It does come up on the Forum from time to time, and it's not too expensive.

You can achieve a smooth sound with ideal bass in most rooms with DSP. It saves you a lot of time and angst. I wouldn't be without it.

Generally, I have always been surprised at the 'best' sounding initial settings for my REL subwoofers over the years, with a variety of speakers. Typically the crossover is around 30+Hz. Even with smaller speakers. You definitely don't want any sub intruding on to the pristine mid-range directly, even if it 'helps' with those uppper tonalities via harmonics. So it's not a matter of calculating the mathematical cutoff from where the manufacturer optimistically decides the speaker descends to...

The subwoofer should be unobtrusive sonically until it's needed in the music. As far as phase is concerned, it's 'suck it and see'; the bass is usually less impactful and enjoyable when the phase is 'wrong'.

Yes, first check out the material that REL provides for general subwoofer setup via their website. Basic principles. [I notice that your room has a lot of placement options; you'll be getting a lot of reinforcement in that corner, so you might need DSP merely to avoid a room node/'boom']

After that, I predict once you experience the magic of DSP equalisation you'll relax and enjoy the music.

Just my 2c worth.
