Just tried to obtain a DAC from them to demo (Tony the owner) - refused to allow me to pay the full cost to demo in my home, only allowing me to demo it on his equipment in his office

Whats the point?! Talk about uninterested in a sale

We all know DACs, CD players and so on are very subjective so its difficult to evaulate a product in someones place & using someone elses gear..

Rather poor form, especially since you offered to pay full whack up front.

These sorts of things can only realistically be tried in your own system for a proper evaluation.

I generally work on the principal of full payment up front with a 14 day return guarantee as long as everything is still pristine if not satisfied. The counter argument of course if you return it, is that the dealer is then left with something that is not really 'new' and may have to be sold off at a discount as a demo unit.

Indeed, it seemed he wasn't interested at all - quite unhelpful

I do understand that this leaves dealers in strange spots, but that can be built into the price. No complaints from Len Wallis or Dlite so far - dlite was more than helpful. It's this kinda thing people want in such a small, specialised market place.

Tony did himself no favours, which is really disappointing as I really wanted to listen to it.

Tony was happy to let me home demo a PS Audio Power Plant 500 a few years ago. We had no concerns with the return of our credit card chit when we did not buy it. We had bought quite a few cds at his shop and had been there often enough for him to remember our names.

Not my idea of Utopia. Sounds more like a box seller, not interested in long term customer relationships. Don't waste your time or energy with them.

Disappointing, i really want to compare it - have emailed PS Audio to see what they can do. Would have liked 3 DAC's for a shoot out tomorrow to really work out which one I want..

My old dealer would insist on me taking home equipment to listen to. He once gave me 3 DACs (Audio Alchemy - engineers have now become Channel Islands Audio) to live with for a couple of days. It worked - I like the most expensive and bought it. I was happy and so was he.

cheers

Could be in the running for the necropost of the decade but is this mob still around ?

I think he is still going somewhere in Hornsby.
