Cafad Posted January 18, 2017 Posted January 18, 2017 Nicely done AJ, you're starting to make me pine for the ocean. It's been forever and a day since I wet a line. I'm hoping to get out closer to Easter.
Cafad Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 OK, well I've finally managed to book a week off. The second week of May I will be back up home in Nth Qld. I've already got two, day long fishing trips planned and may just try to squeeze in a third if weather and sunburn permit. I haven't been fishing in so long I've forgotten what the ocean smells like. 1
Cafad Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Well... the holiday itself was pretty good, caught up with two uncles and many cousins, but the fishing was bloody terrible. I caught a small trevor off the beach on the first trip, it was worth keeping but that was about all I can really say. The second trip proved to me that all those stories about the Hinchinbrook channel being full of fish are a bunch of lies and unfounded rumors. The only fish I saw were ones being used for bait. Only saw one crab too and he was about half as big as he needed to be. So, holiday good, dose of saltwater therapy effective (but unlikely to be long lasting), fishing bad.
Luc Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Have pics...too lazy to post tonight. Been beach fishing through two tide changes today(ask evilC) and absolutely nailed the flatknuckles on soft plastics in the surf. Blue blue skies, warm water about 25c most of the day and only a mild zephyr all day and even better was the fact that QLDers had to work today it seems as there were none sighted on our beach at all which is becoming a rarity. There's a new freeway here now so the border is an hour away and Brissy is 2 an a bit with an early start so the beaches can get clogged with them at times but thankfully the message that you need to buy a licence and there are bag limits is slowly sinking in. That said though, you can't blame em as the fishing is brilliant when they're on like today(if you know what your doing that is).
A J Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 Here's a great Perth specimen - was very tasty on the BBQ with a chilled chardonnay and Deep Purple. Season now closing so I'll post another report from the Abrolhos next week 1

Cafad Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 Nice one AJ, good to see that some of us are still able to wet a line successfully on occasion.
A J Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 I got out again last weekend - off the Kayak again but from a mothership and out at the Abrolhos Island group. Here's a pic of a Western Australian Dhufish. Awesome table fish and good scrappers as well. In the same session I had a pretty decent shark which nailed a fish I had just hooked and towed me around jumping out of the water for 10 mins before busting off. All happens over here - was a sailfish earlier in the year. Much more going on fishing-wise than audio for me anyway....

Luc Posted June 7, 2018 Posted June 7, 2018 @Marc said in the just closed selling thread: "lets move on and talk about other things like has Luc caught any flathead lately." Well funny you should say that el supremo as I have. I showed Evil them yesterday. And that's my first ever flounder out of the surf and all fish caught on soft plastic and 7kg braid. All blue spot flatties and at 40 bucks and up a kilo filleted, there's a bit over a100 bucks there. 2

A J Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 Well here we go again - gave up a trip to the hifi show for this … Abrolhos Islands WA - site of the Batavia wreck from nearly 400 years ago. Saw some of the grave markers from that incredible piece of Australia's history. More importantly - caught some fish 4
Pops110 Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 Good stuff mate. I would pick that over the Hifi show any day, it is an amazing place. I used to spend a bit of time over there on Big Pidgeon island helping the boys get the pots ready for the season. My cousins ex husbands dad was the one that found the wreck. It is always attributed to Max Cramer, but it was Dave Johnson that actually found it. He used to have a few cray boats back in the day. He always talked about knowing of other wrecks as well, sadly he has passed now. Cheers Dave
Luc Posted April 25, 2019 Posted April 25, 2019 I hate to tell you AJ but yer missus needs a shave I think. 1
Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted April 25, 2019 Volunteer Posted April 25, 2019 Bloody hell AJ, you’ve really gone trawling deep into the ocean of SNA history to hook this thread - it’s been inactive for almost 14 years! 1

I reckon i'd love it f I were to ever catch a fish every once in a while. 1 1

First rule to successful fishing is to fish outside of school hols! 2nd rule is no children ! 3rd rule is alcohol is your friend when fishing, calms the nerves and helps while away the time - plus gives those with a camera something to snap when things go wrong! 4th rule is the more expensive your fishing rig, less likely you'll succeed. 5th rule is cheap rigs are hopeless, need to look the part while you fail! 6th rule is fishing is 90 % anticipation - - - - the other 95% is disappointment! 1 hour ago, betty boop said: I can feel a fishing GTG coming on ! if we actually catch something we might be able to grill it feast upon afters could be quite an event ! 1 hour ago, Tubularbells said: Me too! If that fails -only way to assure success, would need to go to a "brothel"nearby in Thornton . No - a Trout farm you dills ! 1 1
