Totally agree… older titles can be a mixed bag … some are truly amazing what they pull off with remastering and re releasing - be interesting the case with this one haven’t read any reviews, something try not to do as it just sets expectations
groovem Posted March 25, 2022 Posted March 25, 2022 All the reviews I have read say that the new transfer is much better than the previous Blu-ray. To quote The Digital Bits: Quote I’ve just posted my in-depth look at Francis Ford Coppola’s legendary The Godfather Trilogy in 4K Ultra HD from Paramount. And let me tell you, the image restoration is breathtaking—as good as the 2008 Blu-rays were, this is almost a night and day difference. It’s really something. Best of all, the set includes all three films, including Coda(and two alternate versions of Part III as well), not to mention a wealth of new and legacy special features. There’s even restored mono audio on The Godfather and The Godfather Part II. This may very well be the 4K release of the year, so don’t miss it. betty boop Posted March 25, 2022 Author Posted March 25, 2022 thank you ... promise i havent read ... but will do once watched hoping to kick into it tonight
groovem Posted March 26, 2022 Posted March 26, 2022 I have started the Godfather and some of the scenes are stunning, especially the outdoor scenes. Some of the indoor ones are not so good but they are few in number. 1
betty boop Posted March 26, 2022 Author Posted March 26, 2022 (edited) watched last night ...oh what a treat ! they have done a wonderful job with this movie in restoration. clearly its film stock and from 50 or so years ago... and some aspects show the age...eg outdoors a little bit of blowing out of whites and indoors a little bit of grain. but gee apart from that its looking wonderfull.. they have really respected the grain in being film source too...the grain in these films is what makes up the image so thank goodness not eliminated it. lovely colours, details. and what a lovely movie... the opening scenes are just so wonderfull with the intro to the family and such a lovely way it captures traditions... i have captured some of the lovely moments in screens shots below and also captured a few from both the initial scenes and through the movie and towards the end which hopefully give some idea of the picture quality . ps these were all watching with a jvc N7 projector and rest assured while i have done best to capture wiht the screen shots...what you will see is even better with your own eyes.. cant wait to catch part 2 which will be evening session about to kick into Edited March 26, 2022 by betty boop 2

betty boop Posted March 27, 2022 Author Posted March 27, 2022 Did watch part 2 not worth posting any screen shots of that... it goes back to Vito's childhood and younger days and there is a lot blurry retro scenes looking that way by intent i think. the picture quality is probably ok for the time but nothing really to rave about. some use of surround sound to good effect. but thats it. for part 2 the blu-ray is probably quite good enough I suspect.
groovem Posted March 27, 2022 Posted March 27, 2022 The scenes shot in Sicily where Michael Corleone is hiding are totally amazing. 1
