Arcsabre Posted April 25, 2022 Posted April 25, 2022 (edited) Further information: Overview: With 1060 watt of total music power, the S 606 HCS 6 package offers excellent value for money but without compromises in design or sound. Give these speakers a listen and compare them to our competitors' products... we promise you will be surprised! The S 606 has a 1in tweeter, two 5in midrange drivers that ensures strong and clear vocals and instruments while the 8in side-mounted woofer delivers a deep, thunderous bass. The S 606 is fully equipped for optional bi-wiring, and bi-amplifi cation. Furthermore, the easily adjustable spikes ensure that the speakers always stand securely, making a good, stable mechanical contact with the floor. The centre and satellite speakers come with supplied wall mounts, of course, allowing terrific versatility when it comes to placement options. In closing, we should also mention that all the models in the S 60 series have removable front fabric grilles. You have the choice of leaving them on or off, but, just as importantly, it also shows that we have nothing to hide with these beauties... quite the opposite! The SUB 250 is equipped with an 8in woofer unit housed in the unique slotted port cabinet. It also features a powerful BASH® amplifier capable of delivering 250W of peak power. Relative to its size and price, the SUB 250 delivers outstanding performance and is capable of producing bass frequencies down to 30 Hz. The SUB 250 has a very flat frequency response which allows it to play bass notes in a very convincing way compared to many conventional bass-reflex subwoofers. Introduction ------------------------------------- Pick up Kensington 3031 DIY centre speaker stand isn’t included. Let me know if it happens to be what you also need… we will work something out. For whoever does not know much about speaker brands - Jamo is a proper Hifi brand from Denmark. Please don't compare it with Samsung LG or Kenwood's HT sets - completely different stuff. They are best to be paired with beefy amplifiers - I've used both receivers and (class A/AB) Hifi amplifiers and they sound completely different. I recommend using AV receivers with pre-outs and have the LR channel driven by a hifi amp. otherwise If used with receivers only make sure go for something that outputs at least 100W per channel at 0.1% THD These speakers - although are made for midlevel HT markets, are proper speakers from a proper Hifi brand. They have high upper limit if you know how to drive them properly. Condition: ------------------------------------ Overall in good condition No scratches or dents except a chipped corner in one of the satellite speaker can be repaired - glue back or some carpentry work would do Does not affect functionality otherwise. One of the best set under $3k new. In my experience can't be beaten in this class. other details: ---------------------------------- Part of its value-driven Studio range, Jamo's S606 system is straightforward. The S606 HCS 3 main box contains the main, rear and centre speakers. The S606 HCS 6 system here adds a second, smaller box with a SUB 250 subwoofer. Not that the floorstanders need much in the way of subwoofing. Despite being slim, the three-way bass-reflex speakers manage to pack in a 25mm dome tweeter, a pair of plastic-coned 125mm bass units, and a side-firing 200mm paper bass woofer. The reflex port is at the back of the speakers, just above a bi-wire set of speaker terminals. A set of outriggers fit into the base and four dirty great spikes hang off the end of these. The S 602 surround speakers are small, conventional two-way bass-reflex standmount designs with a smaller rear-firing port, featuring a 100mm mid-bass unit with the same 25mm tweeter. PLAY SOUND Neither the satellite nor the S 60 CEN centre speaker feature bi-wire terminals, just simple single-wire 4mm plugs. But otherwise, the surround and centre have a lot in common. Like the same tweeter and mid-bass unit; two of them this time, flanking the tweeter. All the speakers are finished in a glorious dark apple veneer with contrasting piano black front baffle. The sub completes the deal. With yet another 200mm bass unit, this time coupled to a 250W BASH power amp, it comes with the usual set of level, phase and frequency adjustments on the back panel. The front-firing drive unit has a large rear-firing port, shaped to match the back plate of the subwoofer itself. Energetic performance This system is all about energy. It's a powerful communicator, fast and well ordered. There is a good sense of integration across the five speakers, although the main speakers do tend toward boom more than the other three. This makes effects-driven passages take on powerful proportions. Diction and articulation, especially from the centre channel, are first rate, although yet again the main speakers have a tendency to 'butch up' dialogue. This is not drastic - it doesn't turn Marilyn Monroe into James Earl Jones - but does add stentorian baritone to some voices, adding even more nauseating self-aggrandisement to Clarkson's voice on re-runs of Top Gear. Although it's not the last word in accurate hi-fi-chummy musical reproduction, the S 606 system can make surprisingly cheap amps and receivers spring into life in an impressive manner. And it represents stunning value for money. It's hard not to be impressed. Alatest Review TechRadar Edited April 25, 2022 by Arcsabre Additional information
Fletch02 Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 I can agree with pretty much all of Arcsabre's comments. I have had most of this same system (different rears) for years it it has served us well. My wife would have been happy to keep it permanently, but I've upgraded fronts to old Jamo concert 7s and now just have to find a centre to sort of match those. As stated, it's not the be all and end all for acurate hi-fi sound, but for this money someone could have a great first proper surround system. GLWTS.

I have to say I had not heard the real voice of them (especially the LR channels) until one day I hooked them up onto my Hifi Amp... They do not sound like anything you would get from within a paired up surrounding system. They are no worse than some of the hifi floorstanders at $3k or so. I was very surprised.
