Hi,

I currently own a pair of Paradigm S2 V3 bookshelf speakers that I really like. I enjoy the mids and highs produced by them but do fund them a bit light in the bass dept.

I was looking to purchase a subwoofer or pair to complement them and looking for some suggestions.

I did find a sub matching tool online that recommended pairing the S2’with the SVS Ultra 16 but I am a little put off by the price ($6k) as well as the physical size of the unit.

I only have small listening area (approx. 4 x 4 mtrs) and don’t want sub or subs that will be too much for the area.

They will only be used for music.

Other equipment is Onkyo M5000R x 2 running in bi amp config with Onkyo P3000R pre amp. Project RPM 10.1 turntable.

Any recommendations for a sub or pair that might be suitable for my space?

Cheers

Hey Mark I can see why there is no response as this is quite a polarising question. I also think there are not as many dedicated users of sub for hifi here but I could be wrong. How do you like your bass - strong and hard hitting or subtle and can only be heard when needed? You do need a fast sub to blend with your speakers for hifi listening (and hifi listening only). What is your budget? If you like small subs, there are the KEF KC62, SVS Micro, Rel TX7 that could be on your short list. I have a REL T9X that does hifi and home theatre using different connections and I am happy with it. Having two of these will even be better though for my 5m X 7m room. All the best in your search.

REL subs are primarily designed for 2.1 music reproduction. I have speakers which go pretty low but use a REL S3 sub to fill in the bottom end and give a bit more weight to bass heavy tracks. It was very easy to integrate with my mains, I simply put it in the only available corner of my room and tweaked volume and crossover for 10 minutes and haven't touched it since.

Mate, try definitive technology. Their small supercube subs are really good for music and good value.
