lencolad Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 In the land of freedom a teenager made an unfortunate comment but can be out of gaol in 8 years if he pleads guilty .... 'In February, Justin Carter, then 18, was engaged in a Facebook dispute with someone from his online gaming community. The gamer called Carter mentally disturbed on a public wall, and Carter, with withering sarcasm and a teenager's poor judgment, wrote back: I think Ima shoot up a kindergarten And watch the blood of the innocent rain down And eat the beating heart of one of them. Carter and his lawyer insist the statement was a joke - albeit one in poor taste. But it's hard to read sarcasm over the internet. Soon a Texas law enforcement agency received an anonymous tip from Canada. Carter's home was searched and he was arrested. Now, he's been sitting in jail for almost five months, unable to pay the $500,000 (£334,470) bond required for his release.' http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-23188875 http://au.businessinsider.com/teen-justin-carter-faces-trial-and-jail-for-facebook-comment-2013-7 http://refreshingnews99.blogspot.in/2013/07/kid-imprisoned-for-5-months-assaulted.html Big brother lives. Pity a clout on the ear from a local copper has gone out of fashion.
emesbee Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 If a band had written those words as lyrics for a song, nobody would have paid any attention. 1
wolster Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 A disturbing piece of writing, sarcasm or not. Warrants a few home truths, not goal time.
zog Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Don't worry, sarcasm detectors on the way:http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-23160583
lusk Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 "Justin Carter was arrested on February 14, 2013 for a statement that he made on Facebook," the petition says. "He was not questioned by the police until March 13th, 2013. His home was not searched until a week after his questioning. The only item seized from his home was his personal computer. No weapons of any kind were seized. If he had posed a real terroristic threat, shouldn't the police have questioned and searched his home sooner than a month after an arrest?" That place is seriously going down the plug hole, surely if your making terrorist threats about shooting you would have at least a gun!
hybridfiat Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Funny thing is, is that if they hadn’t arrested him and he HAD gone out and killed all those kids like many before him WE would be baying like hounds on the lease for the blood of the law enforcement officers and courts who failed in their duty to protect the children when they had adequate warning. Now this little cretin has become an example to others who might have been tempted to do the same and waste police resources. So I say to him and those like him "tough titties"!
Darren69 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Facebook brings the worst out in people, for some reason. One could do a sociology thesis on the behavioural patterns of someone in real life vs on FB. I was on there for a fortnight and found it really weird.
lencolad Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 Now this little cretin has become an example to others ... Yes, but 8 years ???? 1

lencolad Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 Underneath Sir Johannes Bjelke-Hitler you would have got death, with hard labour.

mrbuzzardstubble Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Yes, but 8 years ???? Singer Freddy Fender did 7 years for smoking a joint.Land of the free.
lencolad Posted July 13, 2013 Author Posted July 13, 2013 Singer Freddy Fender did 7 years for smoking a joint.Land of the free. And rightly so. Should have been whipped and beaten, made to apologise repeatedly upon release, and then given another seven to further reflect on the enormity of his crime. How dare he ignore thrilling alcohol and lovely tobacco, which have no social or medical consequences unlike the degenerate herb which is known to instantly cause psychosis and the cancellation of Readers Digest subscriptions.
