Upfront Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 if you got an eye on the Audio technica then the AT-1503 mk3 is a better arm. Duc Thanks Duc. Looks like I have a lot of research to do. This is my favourite part of SNA. All the suggestions! Thanks guys keep them coming!
Joseph Lazaroo Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 I am using the Garrard 301 using the SMD plinth and SME M2- 12R with good results.Would like to get the SME 3012R if I can find one in good order or convert my SME 3009R to a 12 inch arm. Joseph.

christianb Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Hi, I love the Schick arm but you have to think about the pick up you want to use. Quite similar for the SPU A would also be a good Ortofon RK 309. Also you could have a look at the arms that alfredgerd1602 offers on ebay, a German in Spain with a very good reputation for restoring SME 3012 and Ortofon arms at reasonable prices. cheers Christian
Upfront Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) Hi Christian. Alfred's arm is one of the links I posted earlier. There are a few floating around on the second hand market but I'm a little reluctant to jump in that direction. Mainly because it seems to have originally mass produced for some very basic consoles. I could be wrong here. Linc Edited July 16, 2013 by Upfront
damohpi Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 (edited) ISince the first few emails, when he told me I had my order placed and everything was confirmed (except payment) I haven't heard anything since - he has completely stopped replying to my numerous emails. As much as I want the 12" Schick arm, I'm kind of hesitant now. I was actually pushing to pay upfront due to the strong aussie dollar at that time, but am now glad I didnt! Really annoying, because it is hard to buy with confidence from a small overseas business when communication is this bad. It took well over 12 months for my Schick stick... Yeah maybe, OMA in the states have sold them for a few years now but for 1650 USD. The extra costs & perhaps convenience may result in faster delivery

Upfront Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 Really nice work Duc. Looks to be a very nice finish. Very well done!
Owen Y Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 (edited) Yoh, I believe a fellow changed out his Schick for one of thesehttp://www.analoginstruments.co.nz That would be my recommendation too - lovely sound, regardless of price. Edited July 19, 2013 by Owen Y
petng Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 (edited) I have heard the univector with numerous cartridge combo's. Sounded excellent with each. What really surprised me was how solid the bass is. I have used( Vpi and Magnepan ) and heard a few unipivots before, but none have the authority of the Univector. If i am not mistaken the Univector uses a Ruby bearing. How does a unipivot use a Ruby bearing? Duc can you correct me or explain how it works. I always assume a unipiviot was just a pointed steel tip with a cup sitting on top. So you have (had?) a Unitrac, Petng? How did you find it ... and what cart(s) did you use it with? I bought one off Fleabay a couple of years ago because I have had Maggie speakers for 20-odd years and always wanted to see what their arm was like ... but I never got round to putting it on my LP12. Now, however, I have it mounted on my new 'SkeletaLinn' (as a second arm) and just have to fit it with a cartridge. And I would agree with you about the "authority" of the Univector, compared to my Graham 2.2. Even my mate Rick - who hates UPs - was impressed! Regards, Andy Edited July 21, 2013 by andyr

Simple and very effective by the sounds of things!
petng Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I thought it was a ruby bearing sitting on top of the tip!
Telecine Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 (edited) I believe that the Univector actually uses a Sapphire bearing. Will you girls get your jewels right ; ) http://www.goldenageaudio.com.au/univector-tonearm.html Edited July 21, 2013 by Telecine
