l'm wanting to connect a Sony UBP-X700 player (for sacd playback) to a Marantz PM5004 amp. The sony only has hdmi outputs (av & audio) outputs  and a digital coax out and the amp only has analog rca input jacks.

Which is the better way to go, hdmi or coax  for audio only? ls it as simple as a cable or do l need a converter of some sort?..........l'm not up to speed with this era of gear

Sony will not allow SACD output via coax, only via HDMI.  You will need to get a HDMI de-embedder to extract the HDMI signal to optical or coax digital to feed a DAC.  If the DAC is not capable of DSD (SACD), you can use the Sony convert it to PCM.

There is a dedicated hdmi audio jack on the sony so can l coonect straight to a DAC without a de-embedder?

It does not matter which HDMI output you use.  If you have a DAC with HDMI input, likely an eARC port for TV input, it may be possible??? But I have never owned a DAC with HDMI input.

I'm on the same boat with you.

I've been using 4K Bluray player to Blustream SW41AB-V2 to DAC then to integrated amp.

You can bypass the DAC by using the line out from the Blustream.

Or cheaper option is Blustream SP12AB-V2 similar line output without HDMI switching

SACD playback will be tricky, sounds like you need a Matching sony receiver to connect via hdmi for SACD

If you can live with SACD (DSD) converted to PCM

-coax out to a DAC to the Amp

-HDMI to Tv , TV optical out to DAC

-HDMI to Tv , TV analogue out via headphone jack to amp (will need 3.5mm jack to RCA cable)
