blybo Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Seeing as though they are now advertising these gizmos, I was wondering if we have any real world feedback as yet? My planned use is primarily for walking without wires, if they excel at that function, I may be convinced to use on my bike... maybe... as I know standard Apple ear buds are great for letting the outside world in. No great for Audiophile listening, but very useful when you need to have perception of cars, pedestrians etc. I know they will not compare favourably SQ wise to wired cans but that is not the appeal, it's the convenience of the "always on hand" small carrying size an complete lack of wires. I already have some blue-tooth IEM's but they don't work well with a helmet, or a beanie etc etc. I know some have complained about not being able to skip tracks or control volume without Siri, but I'm currently just as likely to use my phone for these functions, or to just remove the IEM's rather than pause them, Handy that the AirPods automatically pause when removed from the ear.
Addicted to music Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 Do yourself a favour, if you have an iPod or and iPhone the wired ones come with them. I suspect they are no different to the wired ones looking at the physical design. At least these are free and comes with the product as an accessory. The Airpods are $229AU. Seriously! And for bike use? I bet if one fell out of your ear while riding you will be lucky to find it, where if a wired one fell out it will be still hanging on the other ear and even then plugged in hanging of the device so you don't send a search party! Go out and spend a little more than $229 and you get a Bose noise concellation, if they fall off while riding you have definately won't lose those in a hurry. 1
Guest Sime Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 All the reviews bar a small few have all said that the new AirPods are slightly better sounding that the wired ones. The common opinion is they are slightly more bassier and all the reviewers said they would use these over the wired ones. As soon as I see them in the store, I'll get a pair, nifty piece of tech imo, regardless of sound.

On a bike or out for a walk/run, I DON'T want noise cancellation under any circumstances, I need to hear what is going on around me too. I already have Jaybird bluetooth IEM's, they are awkward to use with a helmet, conventional wired "in ears" get pulled out just by turning your head. I'm not after awesome SQ, just better usability than currently available. Edited January 27, 2017 by blybo 1
Addicted to music Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) I tried using the wired bud jogging once because I wanted that gen Y look! but I couldn't stand them because as you bounce around these things have a habit of wobbling in your ear and they wonder loose. I started 5.00am jogging in my late 30s and I've never jogged with music! Like you I wanna be so focus around my surroundings especially when it's 5:00am and it's still dark! Wireless direct into the ear with Bluetooth; Used it once for handsfree for the phone. After a week of use I had that section of my face locked up for a month.....so that $50 idea went out the door! And FWIW I did a direct comparison with the top of the line iPhone 7 with its dongle that I bought to replaced the 5 my wife had and compare it to the iphone4 and I can guarrantee 100% that the iphone4 is a few steps ahead in SQ compared to the latest 7 and that's plugging a Beyerdynamic T90 on the end. Infact even my daughter will tell you that her 1st generation 8gb nano is streaks ahead of the current iPod in SQ compared to the current iPod she has just bought, she though it was a real disappointment.....a backward step and she'll never consider Apple as her 1st choice hence she went to a windows phone. Guest Sime Posted January 27, 2017 Posted January 27, 2017 So true, iPhones used to be the better players than the iPods.
blybo Posted January 31, 2017 Author Posted January 31, 2017 Tried a demo pair yesterday. SQ was more than acceptable. Was able to talk to he guy without having to pause music in an already noisy store. So should be good for being out and about and being aware of surroundings. Fit was very snug for me without being tight. Didn't feel like they would fall out. Seriously considering a pair. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Guest Sime Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 @blybo thanks for that, I'm looking forward to getting some.
blybo Posted January 31, 2017 Author Posted January 31, 2017 The stores don't have stock, only demo models which are sterilized before being demo'edSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
blybo Posted January 31, 2017 Author Posted January 31, 2017 They are due in stock on my birthday... A sign?
Krispy Audio Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Should be good, and frees up the port for charging at the same time. I see so many people talking about 'what if they fall out' but honestly in 30 years of using earbuds I've never once had one fall out so for me it's a non-issue. I'm looking forward to getting some.

Krispy Audio Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 Really?! Far out - interesting hey. I have some custom-molded silicone earbuds that get loose every few years (as I understand your ears never stop growing!). The company gives you a bottle of solution I imagine is like a liquid silicone that dries over it and thickens them whilst maintaining a spongey grip. I wonder if that would help in your situation?

Guest Sime Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 @:) al you can buy a specific cable that you can attach to them so they stay together. And you can buy separate buds as spares if needed.
Addicted to music Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 @Sime if Apple was smart enough they'll come up with a "find my Airpod" app, an addition to "find my device". Friggin love that "find my device...". use it all the time Quote
Guest Sime Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 @Addicted to music I think putting gps into thos tiny buds along with everything else would be a stretch

In terms of them falling out, they supposedly work better than the corded version as they don't have a cord to get snagged or pulled on. 3
betty boop Posted February 1, 2017 Posted February 1, 2017 no doubt once wirelessly attached it can "find" them
blybo Posted February 1, 2017 Author Posted February 1, 2017 I hope JB get stock. My wife just received her latest instalment of customer loyalty incentives, including over $500 in JB vouchers. Knowing apple, even though the ver 1 airpods have sensors to tap for Siri, we will probably have to wait for version 2 or 3 to include volume and skip gestures. It's not a big issue for me as I tend to use the phone or watch with my current bluetooth IEM's as finding and grabbing the remote is fiddly. Having said that, this seems to be the negative in reviews I've read.
ozrayyau Posted February 4, 2017 Posted February 4, 2017 Sound quality close to IE80, have a little front stage, easy to hear outside noise but I love them.
