Newly looking into in ear audio.

I have an interest mostly to listen to music from a computer source when I am in bed or walking about the house...so not particularly concerned with anc or calling on a phone.

I have an interest in aiming for a wireless product for the benefits of a good codec, dsp, general technology that improves sound quality -digital trickery.

Basically looking for the best wireless sound quality. What are the alternatives to AirPods Pro you guys recommend I check out?

Anyway, curious about in ear products and other alternatives to AirPods I found this video along the way.

He basically got me up to speed on the package deal of AirPods Pro.

Good video for the uninitiated.

Haven't watched the DMS video yet to compare.

Anybody know anything about L3C codec?

It has excellent efficiency and performance at low bitrates... but it it is not lossless.

If apple are enabling lossless audio (which they could, BT 5.x has enough bandwidth to do it) then it is not via L3C

For travel I'd been using Beyerdynamic Lagoon ANC headphones, which I absolutely loved for the last 5-6 years. Recently I had some Apple gift cards to use up and before a 5-leg flight, I decided to put some Airpods Max. ANC is good, but not quite as good as the Beyerdynamic's in my opinion. The weight difference was quite noticable too, being heavier by nearly 100 grams.

I've enjoyed the easier connectivity across Apple devices, for sure.

The potential deal breaker for me though is the clamping pressure. I don't have a small head for sure, but it's not unusually large either (arguably, perhaps) .... but I found myself with a bit of a headache each time I wore them more than 2-3 hours. Has anyone else experienced this with Airpods Max, and being new, are they likely to 'give' at all as time goes on?

Yep, same issue.

I waited a while and then sold them on after no relief was in sight.

Quite thick metal in the frame - which seems to be resistant to stretching much.

I did used to leave them clamped on an LS-50 to simulate extra head time, but didn't make an obvious difference.  (My patience ran out before I noticed any positive change.)

I recently received a pair of Air Pods Max as a birthday gift. Seeing as though rumours suggest an update is some time off and not likely to see any significant upgrades I decided waiting wasn't worth it.

I'm about to go and use them on the ride-on mower for the first time to sample the ANC, but I've been super impressed with the "atmos" sound while watching stuff on Apple TV late at night when other family members have gone to bed. The sound appears to still be coming from my surround system and you don't get the feeling of the sound being in your head at all. Several times I've had to double check that they are connected and I'm not just hearing my surround system in transparency mode. Amazing and I don't really feel like I'm losing out watching this way, which was the major use case I had in mind, as well as using with an array of power tools. Last night I watched Roadhouse (terrible movie btw) and when walking out to the kitchen I could hear the dialogue switch to behind me as I walked out of the room and stayed connected well over 10m away from the ATV box and through a wall.

SQ is excellent with what I'd describe as a well balanced sound signature. Not bass heavy by any means but it's certainly there when the source demands it. I wear a size 57 hat and don't find any issues with the clamping force. They feel comfortable past the 2 hour mark and although I can notice the weight, it doesn't really bother me. Watching a movie I forget I have them on... even terrible movies like the remake of Roadhouse... what were they thinking with Connor McGregor's character???

Can confirm AirPods Max out perform AirPods Pro v1 with comply foam tips for ANC when using my ride on mower. Could barely hear the engine and blades over music at moderate volume.

very happy, just have to wear a cap instead of a wide brim hat
