Greetings all,

Almost a bit embarrassed to write this amongst the level of collective audio knowledge here! But very excited I've found this treasure trove.

I bought a mint, still boxed Technics SL-1200 MK3D Turntable from Japan and had it shipped to NZ. I then bought the following power supply from MCRU to change from 100V to 220V

https://www.mcru.co.uk/product/technics-sl1200-1210-linear-power-supply-step3/

Upon getting it to NZ I called my two local audio shops and they informed me they don't do this sort of thing "because it encourages parallel importing" [even though its an antique]

And the other mentioned you need to be a registered electrician to do this?

The power supply came with simple instructions, it involves  "Removing the internal power supply completely and fitting a stand alone external power supply which sits on any surface close to your Technics brings about a tangible increase in sound quality without question" From my reading the old power supply has supply issues when under strain and is also very noisy.

I am on the hunt of a technician in New Zealand [preferably the South Island but North will do if needed] who would do this for me?

Could anyone suggest someone experienced in this sort of thing?

Thanks so much,

Oli

Have you tried any electronic service shops - there's plenty in Christchurch.

https://www.pitchandpixel.co.nz/repair-services

https://www.caveman.co.nz/services.html

https://aimac.co.nz/repair-services-and-prices/radios-amplifiers-and-stereos/

... and many more!

Electronic service techs are normally licensed to work on 230 volt plug-in appliances, so should not be a problem.

Hi Weka,

Appreciate your reply. I just had a look at those you mentioned. Think it's between Pitch & Pixel and Aimac, have you dealt with either of them?

Both seem to do most electronics and aren't necessarily Hifi specialists, do you think that matters? Or would both be fine to do it? Just hesitant since I've spent a lot of money and time on getting it to NZ in the first place then waiting for the power supply! ha

I know turntables are a bit of speciality device but installing a power supply no doubt isn't?

Thanks so much!
