These are my parents speakers.

One of them has a tinny rattle from the lower bass driver. It's not always audible but comes up with much bass. It's gone when I removed the driver.

I can't spot any damage on the driver but I don't really know what i'm looking for.

Few questions:

Is it ok to use the speaker with the damaged driver removed?

What is the likely cause, and is it possible to DIY repair?

What should I expect to pay getting them professionally repaired (if it's possible)?

Does anyone have a replacement driver they'd sell? I'm in Auckland.

Thanks for any advice/help

@Soody Put the driver back in and listen with the screws nice and firm. Also, go around the other drivers and see if they need tightning. It might be that the frame of the driver is loose and vibrating on the front baffle. Theres a good chance it might be that cable touching  the cone as well. Generally if theres a problem with a driver like that, you will here a scraping. not a rattle. Also, you can run the driver out of the speaker and listen relative to the volume that makes it rattle. If it's doing it then. you will most probably need a recone which in my mind is worth it. These were fun speakers.

These use two 16 ohm mid/woofers wired in parallel which is  a much better way of doing it than modern B&Ws  which tend to use 8 ohm drivers wired in parallel and result in very low impedance .They are also sealed  box which means they are much less room and positioning fussy. So well worth fixing.
