netpenthe Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 i have a room that is my listening room: 4.5m x 3.6m I have jbl l100's, do i put them on the long wall or short wall? does it matter much? thanks
Luc Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 JBL L100's yeah? 4 minutes ago, netpenthe said: does it matter much? I'm guessing not. You sitting looking at the short wall or you sitting looking at the long wall?
muon* Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 (edited) Which ever one means you can have the speakers at least 1m from side walls, if you can achieve this either way I'd likely pick the short wall in order to have the speakers further from the rear wall (rear of the speakers). Edit: I also like the room to have symmetry so whatever way that is achieved best. Edited August 20, 2022 by muon* typo
CanberraJohn Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 If you put them against the long wall, you get them out of the corners a bit. Just put something soft (sound absorbent) behind you to dampen reflection.
awayward Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 It depends on the flexibility you have for the listening and speaker position, if you can put both wherever you like I’d go speaker on the short wall, the speakers away from the front wall as much as possible while still having some distance behind the listening position and the rear wall. 1
almikel Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 the equilateral triangle approach for speakers and listening position works well - with the L/R speakers and listening position being the 3 points on the equilateral triangle. Now position this triangle in the room with as much distance to boundaries as possible...you can muck with the size of the equilateral triangle... Choose whether short wall or side wall gives you more space around your chosen equilateral triangle. Bass response will change significantly throughout the room as you walk around - this is normal/expected... ...if the bass is not sufficient at the listening position, move/adjust the equilateral triangle, or consider adding a sub. Subs can go anywhere in the room to achieve the smoothest bass response at the listening position. cheers, Mike
Pim Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Mine are in the middle of the room, kind of 'on the long wall'. I used the Cards calculator for best bass response and set my seat up for smoothest bass. Then went from there with tilt/toe in. Whatever you choose, hang something on the first reflection point. Those JBLs sound bright enough without reflections. http://www.cardas.com/room_setup_calculators.php 1
