eow Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 imho, the comparison between the m73 n 773e isn't a fair one... cos the m7 series are to replace the 700 series. Hence the com should be with the 703e( or 702 i could be wrong..) The 773e are being retail at higher price in it heyday. However, if u are thinking of buying one go for the 773e I 've heard the m71 and 771e they both offer clarity n good separation. but visiually the 77 series are better in term of look as for the M7 series i think they are really no slouch when it come to sonic performance U thinking of buying?
Lancelot Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 Not comparing the 2 speakers, as I know 773e is of a higher league than m73, but just interested to get some feedbacks on them. Thinking of upgrading my KEF Cresta 2 to either of the above. You mean the 77 series only scores better than the m70 series in term of looks? Thanks.
eow Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 Cos i have a 771e spk myself and my friend possess a pair of m71 have heard both n compare using the same amp 931Mkii except the cdp i'm using the cdp 930e While he using the nad 521 both spk imho got clarity and , however they tend to be on the bright side One word of advice i noticed If u going to use the Qed 25th Ur speaker will definitely sound too bright for yr liking Personally i haven't heard both the 773e n M73 before it was based solely on the hearing session of their smaller siblings. I would suggest u personally tried them yrself Don worry which score higher in term of look sound quality is more impt
Lancelot Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 Guess you are refering to heeyeng who has the m71. He told me the 2 of you were mixing and matching his hifi at his home. Just bought a pair of m73 to replace my KEF Cresta 2, quite good IMO, but haven got the chance to compare with 773e. Wat cables do you recommend? Current hifi system: NAD C340 amp NAD C520 CD player Mission m73 Thanks.
Guest heeyeng Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 And that friend of eow is me! :) Well Mission tends to sound a bit bright. I have a hard time toning it down. And it need a very long time and hard way of burning in them! I have a Mission M71, to burn in I always when before going to work, turn the treble and bass to fullest, turn volume to slightly higher than normal listening, cover the speakers with very thick blanket (for the sake of neighbours), and play rock cd continuosly until I come back home. Everytime, I mean every single time, the Mission will sound smoother and less bright after each burn in. So what I wanted to come to is, if you audition Mission please make sure it's totally burn in, else you wouldn't be listening to the real thing. Mine one burn nearly 100 hours liao, still haven't warm yet, I hope by the progress that it keeps warmer everytime, it will finally sound sweet. :)

Lancelot Posted May 25, 2002 Posted May 25, 2002 Got such a world of difference between pre run-in and post run-in? Heeyeng, hows your mixing and matching going on? Hope everything is working out for you. u are absolutely right! used to own a 780 and nearly regretted cos it sounded so different from at the showroom for the first week. listened to m73 at people's audio 1 yr ago, it sounded horrible. its only a few months later at kec that i heard the m73 again, but it sounded so much better! i realised then that the one i heard at people's was not run in yet.

eow Posted May 27, 2002 Posted May 27, 2002 I'm using QED Biwire 79 Strand spk cables and Audio Signature I/C. The QED 25th althought is a bright cable. but who known it actually may suit yr taste... it a decent cable by itself so that no harm in trying it out...

jfds Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 Hi, Have recently acquired a pair of Mission 753 freedom signature speakers and although told they have upgraded crossovers and tweeters compared to standard model l have been unable to find any detailed information. Does anyone know more about these ? (BTW they sound fantastic) 2
betty boop Posted June 19, 2018 Posted June 19, 2018 the freedoms dont have the metal dome of the S series and lack some of the bite.... but also smoother for those chasing that sort of thing. there were quite a few henry azima specials "signature" versions and it would have a more upspec tweeter and xover as claimed I have a couple of signature 750LE standmounts. these were THE very best and last of the uk made missions. since then its really just a brand and made at some chinese maker. so have done well to grab these 1

I have just set them up, running them in I guess you could say! Didn't know much about them until now.. actually I still don't! You're right the 'F' definitely has a smooth hf.. I'm finding it hard to place these in a smallish 2.5 X 3M room, they need space! Cheers Edited August 10, 2018 by b@ndicoot 3
afs909 Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 Hi jfds, I have a pair of these as well. I find them to be lacking in both trebble and bass. Do you mind telling me what amp you are running with these and if you are happy with them? Regards, Adrian
afs909 Posted February 3, 2022 Posted February 3, 2022 Update. With a McIntosh amp they sound excellent. I prefer the series 1 Mission 753's.

I've heard people say they preferred the extra sparkle and air from the first version. It used the rectangular face plate and coated plastic dome (not alloy). I had a pair I used with Musical Fidelity MA-65 mono-blocks and a vinyl front end and they sounded fabulous.
afs909 Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 Contacted Mission looking for information on the crossover for these. They replied saying they don't have any information at all as they are too old. A bit disappointing considering they were "flagship" speakers. So I will be replacing the old electrolytic caps with Mundorf Ecaps. I would say they need to be replaced as it looks like one of the caps is an original.
