I’m not exactly sure, I think as the later model the 752 improved on the 751, offered atmos support, better remote.
I had a 752, it was excellent, had features like hdmi in so you could connect another device, I had a pvr hooked up to it. Excellent player with good dacs for playing off your own hard drives as well as spinning discs. Support for SACD, but only via HDMI to an AVR.
I think it is great machine, I only replaced to get the 4K capable CXUHD, which doesn’t have analogue outputs, so ultimately not as useful!

I also had the Cambridge Audio 752bd about four years ago, didn’t get to play with it much, sold it on, now I want another one, hence my original question

Main difference between them is the 752 added HDMI and digital coaxial/toslink INPUTS so it can be used as a DAC for other sources or you by using the HDMI input you can use the video upscalers onboard the 752 to improve other poorer video sources.

And that’s it ? Okay, well, I’m not too bothered by that then, okay, so I have just bought two 751bd’s, you always need  a back up, right ? I will eventually tracked down a couple of 752bd’s as well

I have had both these players and know them very well.

The Cambridge Audio 751 has the same Mediatek mainboard as used in the Oppo 93/95. It was in fact manufactured by Oppo for CA. But the audio board is CA's own unique design based on their DACmagic (using Wolfson DAC's chips) and sounds very different to the Oppo 95's Sabre based audio board.

The 752 is just the updated version, with the new video mainboard as found in the Oppo 103/105 series. Same as above, the audio board is different and based on their DACmagic.

I would get the 752 if you can. The newer video mainboard has better compatibility with blu-rays and other discs. I think the audio quality was improved slightly from the 751 to 752 as well.

I still use my 752 daily, but its highly modified to be just a digital front end, with the analog audio board stripped out.

Good move .The 752 has much better codec file playback and has a different video processor [marvell] and digital upsampling /time filtering.

its spdif inputs are just the thing to help a pvr sound better too 👌

In my opinion the video output via HDMI 2 (Mediatek direct output) is superior than the Marvell processing via HDMI 1.

The Marvell processing is operating even when all it’s settings are at 0. It’s undefeatable.

I found best results were to use HDMI 2 and output the resolution as Source Direct. This will output the image with minimal processing by the player and lets your tv handle all the processing. Modern tvs are much better at doing upscaling, noise reduction, sharpening etc

Good to know, one thing though, do both the 751 and the 752 play the audio only dts 5.1 discs ? I came across one the other day, I did not know that they existed, apparently a precursor to the dvd-a format.

Well after 8 years of use my CA 752 mainboard seems to have died. Or perhaps its the front panel PCB that runs the IR and front buttons. Standby light is on, but no turning on. I swapped the power supply and same thing. Bugger.

If anyone had a spare 'for parts' CA 752 PM me, even if yours is not working at all.
