Hi guys,

This seems to come up on various forums at various times, without a satisfactorily cheap solution. Only the Audiophonics adapters seem to fit the bill and they're expensive.

Does anyone know of a switch (highlighted/represented below in yellow), that will take a 12v trigger signal from an AVR? basically just an on/off switch that I can hook up to a contactor and then plug a powerboard into that?

As I understand it, when the AVR is on, its a solid 12v signal at something like 100mA. So I need a switch that turns on when it receives a 12v supply and turns off when there is no supply.

Any thoughts? is there some solid state relay out there that'd do it? Maybe one of these?

Not 100% sure, but it doesn't seem to be available for a whole lot less than the 25 EUR audiophonics.fr device (which is a neat solution).

I need 6 or 7 of the bloody things.....gets kinda expensive.....

Can't you connect a power board to just one?

8amp max. So probably need 2 or 3 all up

I think I've found a better relay, I've emailed the supplier to confirm. Then I'll talk to our sparky. We can mount this in a 19" rack sub-board, with its own RCBO and surge protection. Maybe even a Thor filter if we wanted to go mad with it.

There's a whole lot of self contained SSRs on eBay and some are even guaranteed and tested and operate with a few volts dc  that'll do the job perfectly but you'll need to assemble them for mains use and get this safety tested - not at all a difficult procedure.

Or you can buy them from companies like MattBlatt, Fastron, etc and get an electrician to assemble them.

Many ways to solve the problem ...

Is 8 amps around 2000w, that’s a lot of power.

Would a master slave power board suffice?

I've tried them in the past, they kept dying on me....plus the 7 power amps I need now

Is having 12volt triggers fitted to your amps to much?

it can be done.
