zydeco Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Our A/V set-up sees 3 or 4 sources (e.g., FetchTV, AppleTV, Game Console) connected via HDMI to a 4-way HDMI switch with audio breakout with, then, video sent to the TV via HDMI and audio sent to a 2-channel DAC via Coax S/PDIF. This set-up has worked well but the unit is increasingly unreliable with it requiring frequent power on / off cycles and intermitted video flickering. I've done all the usual troubleshooting around cables, firmware etc. with no success so am after advice as to other HDMI switches with digital audio breakout that could serve as a replacement. There appear to be a lot of cheap options but I'm after something that is really reliable given that the unit is at the heart of the system used daily by the family. Any suggestions?
PMac76 Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 (edited) Blustream is worth looking at. I’ve got this one: https://www.videopro.com.au/product/blustream-sw41ab-v2-4-way-4k-hdmi-2-0-hdcp-2-2-switch/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwyt-ZBhCNARIsAKH1177g-bgLWLdx_uGrWprfbdWs-2AKK0XsX9SCgDDE4zv37lm9cn2_RcMaAkjJEALw_wcB Build quality is excellent, quality of sound and picture is also, but I do have a slight issue with it. The issue is there is a loss of picture with audio continuing when you start a stream. (Few seconds) This also happens when you watch YouTube and it switches to and from an ad. This could just be my unit, I’ve been to lazy to get in touch with Blustream to find out. I just pause till the picture appears. So not a full recommendation, just an option. That's the same unit as I've got right now. It's worked well for years but recently I've had (a) screen going black for 1-2 seconds before continuing, (b) a few red lines across the screen and (c) no video but audio (which is solved with power on/off). The default answer might just be a new unit as it doesn't break the bank and fits into the system. I've also found Altona 4k HDM Switch but it's just optical S/PDIF and a lot more expensive.

Sorry I didn’t click on your link to view your unit. 1
