I've seen a lot go for under $300.

If you are talking about the Q701's I recall there were 2 or 3 pairs going for about the $200 mark in the classifieds here early this year. Have not seen any for a while now.

I would throw Audio Technica ATH-AD-900x into the mix. I think they are superb value for money.

A lot of us got them from here.

Shipping is the killer.

50 euro for 30kgs.

That's about 10 pairs!

If you can find a few people to share, it's worth it.

Even just one person will make it roughly $300 each including.

Why bother, when you can get them here; http://www.addictedtoaudio.com.au/AKG-Q701-Quincy-Jones-Signature-Line-ReferenceClass-Headphones

I really like the Grados for my music.

I only went as high as the SR 80 'cause I like speakers better.

For my money they were an upgrade from my 414s.

The PFEs were a further upgrade, but they are earphones, and (I understand) no longer made.

I listen to all types of music except C&W and hip hop, lean more towards classic rock and prog though, I have been doing a little googling and come up with Sennie 598 and AKG Q701, but it will be difficult without a listen. I have seen a pair of HD 650s for $350

I have HD650s (Cardas wired) and AKG 701s. For my head, the HD650s are more comfortable, but there is no doubt in my mind that the AKG 701s are better sounding headphones, though both are exceptionally good.  I also have  Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro, which has a slightly raised top end - I use these off a headphone amp off my PC, and like them a lot for comfort and sound, though they are not in the same league as the other two.  I believe that the DT-990 (not Pro) is flat and thus more suitable for hi-fi (seems very counter-intuitive to me that the pro version should be less true-to-frequency than the domestic version)

I have a pair of AKG Q701's. I would still recommend that you consider a pair of HD 580's. you should be able to pick up a pair for about $150.

Q701 for $250, can't find HD 580 anywhere for under the $200 mark

What is the difference between the K and Q 701?

I own an old pair of HD 580s.  Not saleable I'm afraid.  The comfort level is excellent and they are very musical, but detail is not anywhere near to the 600 or 650 and certainly way below the 701s.

I think they are the same, except for Quincy Jones branding and a detachable cable on the Q701.

OK, the deed is done, ordered a pair of black Q701s from the US for $256 plus $26 postage.
