sdotmouse Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 Probably most everyone has had to deal with stress, I'm not thinking about severe stress, but the day to day variety that you may not always think of as stress. Anyway I usually take refuge in u tube and wanted to recommend a dude called atomic shrimp who, for me anyways, has interesting content and a relaxing delivery that whilst I couldn't describe as riveting tends to take me away from worrying about things that probably aren't that important. I have no affiliation. s.m 1

I have no affiliation. s.m I have a YouTube playlist with about 90 one hour segments from a couple of places called 'soundeo' and 'DJ Dark'. Just continuous music (mostly based on melodic top 40 from the past 3 decades). Most of them have some form of pictures to go with them (a lot of bikini girls, but some travelogues, etc), but I mostly just listen at just above ambient levels. Keeps me from hitting enter on some of the emails I'd like to send to people who don't deserve their share of oxygen (at least, that's how it feels at the time!) 1

t_mike Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 To help bring me down at the end of the day, I like to lie down in a very quiet room and relax listening to my tinnitus. 2

blakey72 Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 Escape to the country for a day/holiday but I wouldn't move to it. I've been in country Vic for 13 years from Melbourne and it's driving me nuts. Can't wait to move back. One Coles, one Woolworths, One HN see the same faces every time you go out, it's grinding! Variety and choice is the spice of life. A balance between city and country is probably the best. Love in the city, visit country areas regularly to de-stress. 1

sdotmouse Posted November 25, 2022 Author Posted November 25, 2022 Thanks for any (all) suggestions. And wasabijim if you like train trips there was one on SBS a while ago, NZ south Island I think it was and ended up on a boat. It was strangely absorbing. Also recommended by my brother - hibiscus tea. Not at all like other herbal teas I've tried and apparently nice cold. s.m 2

sdotmouse Posted November 30, 2022 Author Posted November 30, 2022 Hi Mr bz, I had a quick look at this and plan to watch tonight starting 2 hours before the world Cup games. At 1 hr 57 minutes it will give me just enough time to get ready and make a nice cup of tea! (thats assuming all the alcohol has been consumed) cheers s.m 1
muon* Posted November 30, 2022 Posted November 30, 2022 Meditation The silent type, not that making Ohmm sounds stuff. Just focusing the mind on the breathing to the exclusion of all other thoughts.

I do find making an ohmm gives me something to centre my breathing concentration on - focus on the note, its resonance through the chest, holding it constant, preparing for another exhale, etc... Similarly, doing some sort of stretching (nothing text book or from some ancient yoga scroll) while I sit provides a good point of focus - feeling your fibers go tight and relax with you breathing, the additional tension on your breathing, pushing the stretch, maintaining good posture and form etc. for example just reaching your arms up to the ceiling but I'm only a mediation newbie and need all help I can to keep bringing my focus back

Took years before the mind was without thought and silent, but it was so worth it. Have only just started practicing again after decades of not practicing as the mind has gotten too noisy for my liking. 1

We have to drive nearly 30Km for a Harvey Norman. We do have a Thai & a Chinese restaurant and even a Dominos, and 3 booze outlets (RSL, Bowlo and Golf clubs), so it's not all doom and gloom.
