I have a long and narrow room with narrow been the annoyance. The measurements are 6.2m long, 2.6m wide and 2.2m high. Walls are 2mm drywall, no windows and one door towards rear side of room, there’s 5 flat surfaces with 3 been the largest that’s the two side walls and ceiling. My floor is concrete with medium dense carpet. I currently have prime acoustic panels on side walls.

what I’d like to know what would be the minimum treatment needed as I know room acoustics are very costly and is there any hacks that are cheaper to get than paying loads of money. Room acoustics are new to me and also forget to mention this is for home theatre use in a 5.1.2 setup with two subs. Any tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Aaron. There are plenty of room acoustics calculators available online for free, like this one:

https://gikacoustics.eu/room-acoustics-visualizer/

They can be a good place to help get an idea of the potential impact  different tiers of treatment have at different budgets. Plus any retailer worth their salt should be able to give you specific advice if you provide your room specs as above, along with a few photos.

And a simple tip - buy used where you can. That generally saves you 50% on RRP off the bat. There are often quality acoustic treatments turning up here on Stereonet. I just picked up a couple of Primacoustic maxtraps here in NZ that way. Allows me to experiment in my room with much less initial outlay. And if I don’t like them I can move them on again to someone experimenting the same way I am with less of a loss on investment.

Thank for suggestions. Currently in total I have 12 large Prime acoustic panels on side walls with none on front wall, ceiling and back wall. It seems like there’s no cheap way out or life hacks when it comes to room acoustics as looks like I am up for thousands of dollars alone just to get the bare minimum. What I want to achieve is just to get the bare minimum requirements so at least it’s not the room talking back lol.

In my cinema, I stood two 100mm thick XHD accoustic insulation batts upright ontop of each other to create one 600w x 2400h panel with no frame or cover. Positioning them diagonally across the front wall corner, floor to ceiling, which is 2.4m high so it's a perfect fit. I used a couple of small stick on wall hooks and some sting to lash the panels to the wall. Mrs Cdave made black velvet curtains which were hung to hide the panels and frame the projector screen.

I was really pleased with both the  aesthetic and accoustic improvements, particularly considering how quick and easy it was ( I didn't make the curtains  😉) and the low cost.

That sounds awesome might have to consider something like that. I still have a few rock wool bats left over from the build.

Look for Elite Sound Acoustics panels - on eBay or their own website. Excellent, affordable, very effective panels - and attractive colours and designs.

Just confirming if they are called “elite electronics” as I got a search result for them with reasonable prices. https://www.elite-electronics.com.au/Home_Entertainment/Acoustic_Treatments

I think they're made in the Ukraine. Excellent in my room.

I use two pairs of the Bass Traps in my front-wall corners (two panels stacked); two Absorber-Diffuser panels in the centre of the front wall (side-by-side between speakers); and two of the Diffuser Panels on the ceiling at the reflection points between speakers and listening seat.

In my room side-wall reflections don't need treatment I've found, but most rooms will benefit from an Absorber-Diffuser panel at first-reflection points. And many rooms may need a couple of bass traps in the rear-wall corners, depending on how long the room is, soft-furnishings, and how high the listening seat / couch is.

I see you're in Qld, are you in Brisbane by chance? There's a local guy up here making quality Acoustic products for not much more than you'd DIY them
