I unfortunately retired my LP collection at some point 15 years ago, and went slow but steady into CDs from late 80s til now. Cd's with a great player/DAC can be 99% as vibrant as Vinyl. I do miss the liner notes and size of print on em! Keep physical medium alive, whatever it is. Enjoy cafe!

This is great news.

As someone who enjoys both black and silver discs, this is good to see and I remain convinced that both formats have their relative plus and minus points.

Ahh nice one, I love my Compact Disc Digital Audio. Such a great format. And pretty much it always sounds good.

I have continued to grow my collection and my 15 year old daughter just loves them too. She says streaming sounds like crap and vinyl playing is a bit too complicated for her. Long Live the CD!

Let’s hope the prices don’t follow vinyl 🤞

I really doubt it (I hope) the economy of scale is already there and the machines to make CDs all available and cheap. Some plants have been dismantled, but of course nothing like what it happened with vinyl. And yes vinyl prices are just crazy and the quality is just such a hit and miss. Nowadays I probably buy one or two vinyl albums per year, everything else on Compact Disc.

Never even seen an 8 track  😁

The cartridge is like a larger version of those early Nintendo games like Mario Kart.

Yep.

I still have a few Op Shops were tasty titles can be had for $2-4.

The same priced LPs are the likes of Burl Ives sings Christmas or Mario Lanza Drinking Songs that look like they have been skated over.

I remember them in cars. Just let them play, no flipping needed!

The author of the article recommends programming a different track sequence to listen to The Beatles Revolver.  But he didn't specify if it was for the British or the US version of the album.

At least he refers to records as LP's and not "vinyls".

I have pictures if you'd like to see them (hints at opening his overcoat)...

To me the "Gold Disc" was a collection of compilated Compact Discs for exclusive distribution to radio stations.

For us in radio this was absolute real gold. This service was made by TM Century in the US and distributed by Radio Express worldwide.

At our station we had a collection of about 150 compact discs which included selected Top 40 Hits (US charts) from about 1981 to 1989. They were all beautifully catalogued with time and even information about the end of the track: F(fade) or C(cut).

I believe that each station ordered their own selection of tracks.
I am lucky to own copies to CD-R of our collection which were made as accurately as possible in the early 2000s. And yes, they sound pretty good.

Oh, how I miss those sunny Sunday afternoons choosing what to play next from the Gold Disc collection....

I have been CD and SACD for ages. Sold off my vinyl collection in 2004/2005 after selling my turntable around that time. Was unable to find a LP cleaning system to get rid of the clicks and pops out of my collection. Pity the Ultrasonic systems weren't there then.Currently buying a lot of "Various Artists" and Soundtracks on CD and SACD.My wife's favourite is the "Love Actually" Soundtrack.

The "Hyper Analogue" Gold Master CD of Clair Marlo's "Let it Go" is really worth the money. Elusive Disc are selling 1500 of them. Fantastic CD!

I was in Europe last month and very surprised to see lots of CD music shops!

In fact one high end classical music shop in Belgium had 90% CD, 10% vinyl.
Not sure if this evidences a come-back/revival or not, but certainly not what I expected 🤔

Brick and mortar store second hand CDs are reasonably priced and worth browsing.

On the discogs website, and on ebay, I have found that the market is distorted by excessive mail and handling costs. Perhaps with a resurgent market for silver discs the postage costs will fall in line in the long term. If that prediction in fact eventuates.

Was lucky enough to get a couple of gift cards for my 60th birthday around $80 each. One was for a vinyl only shop the other had second hand CDs , some still in the wrapper. I ended up with one vinyl LP from store one and 12 cd’s and change from store two. This just adds to my love of the silver disc.
