I *might* be about to look at selling off my MSB Premier DAC with Premier Powerbase, Network Renderer v2, Femto 93 clock and Optical / Coaxial module due to a change in system direction (outboard DSP on a new preamp).  All in as new condition with original double boxes and remote control.

If anyone is looking around for one reach out and we can chat.

Reaching out. Worth a chat. Catch you in messages.

This is my dilemma…

Hi all,

new on this Forum. I’m auditioning at home a MSB Premier with Powerbase and ProUSB (without Femto93) connected to Innuos Statement and with PhoenixNET from router.

Within next week I have to take a decision. Guess what? I’m incline to purchase it.

A few question for you, experienced members

1. Using a PS Audio transport I’d need a new cable, is there a general consensus about the best brand/model cable for MSB digital XLR AES/EBU input?

2. Which kind of DC cables from Powerbase to Premier do you suggest, if they count?

3. I’m running the 19.x firmware, on the MSB website I saw that latest version is 22.x. Anyone tried it and which kind of improvement this upgrade can bring?

I’m using PS Audio BHK Pre, M1200s monos, Souns faber Olympica nova III speakers., 2 REL subs. AQ Dragon power cords, Pink Faun USB and Ethernet cables. Well treated room, all dedicated lines with 2 regenerators from PS Audio, P20 for sources and P15 for amps.

TIA

I use the standard power cables- would love to try some others if they are a step up, but the only ones I’ve seen cost crazy dollars!

Solid system you have there, Luca!

Thank you, hope other experienced members can help us. The cables you are referring to, I suppose only works with Reference/Select DACs.

I collected my AES / EBU input module from Sydney HiFi Castle Hill, today.

Installed in seconds, fired it up with a cheapish 3m Mogami cable.

So far, sounds great, best yet. I was using the S/PDIF connection recently.

A little clearer through the midrange and treble, as I can pick individual notes and instruments more easily; maybe wider soundstage, somehow it seems to illustrate the interplay of instruments with each other better than previous. I have no idea how, but it is definitely better than the previous connections.

The Reference DAC seems to have no ceiling- wonder what the Select sound like :)

I think the AES /EBU Input is worth the bucks, in context.

Out of context, it costs as much as a really good DAC all on its own...

I've recently bought a Sablon EVO AES/EBU XLR cable to be used from the PS Audio PST Transport to the MSB Premier Module, within a week I'll be ready to share my thoughts.

Also ordered a pair of umbilical cables from Dr.Sean Jacobs for my Innuos Statement and he said that he could produce also a pair for the Premier PowerBase if I'm able to send him a sample.

Racks are racks, as far as their purpose goes (some do it better than others, functionally), but I do love a good @SGR Audio rack. There's something just "right" about them.

New MSB Cascade DAC announced at Munich 2024.

$95K US

Wow that's $144k aud!!!!! that's a lot moola for a dac. Noticed it's still based as an R2R Multibit Ladder dac. They delved into Delta Sigma (bit stream) a few years back for a couple of models, and very quickly dumped that technology, and never went back.

While I'm an owner of a MSB DAC (Premier with Premier power base) I'd wager that there are negligible improvements to be found here. Buying one would very much a matter of buying the most expensive at all costs

I'm of the same opinion as I have the rare MSB Discrete R2R ladder PowerDac that runs off it's own massive linear mains power or it has the even better sounding option of 5 x SLA rechargeable internal brick batteries it can run off for up to 6 hrs.

( I think that's the reason MSB never exported them out of the US, rare because of their weight/fire hazard of internal batteries not being allowed on transport export aircraft)

I can't imagine this new one being "sounding" much better, as they all seem to use the same discrete ladder dac modules which is the heart of their dac/s The newer models just have more connectable goodies ability they can do, which doesn't "to me" justify the big price change to upgrade to. And I believe the battery power option mine has may even have the edge, as it sounds just that "bit" fuller and richer and 3d than when running off it's linear mains power does.

Considerably cheaper than the model it replaces.

Do yourself a favor and get a better cable. Check with your Shunyata dealer if they will loan you an Alpha or Sigma cable.
