jezzaboogie Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 Thinking about moving on this setup - ME200 power and ME25 pre. Can anyone advise on what a reasonable asking price is? In perfect working order. Currently listening and reconsidering my decision to sell!
Jakeyb77_Redux Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 The amp, not much. Less than $800. The preamp depends on phono stage and upgrades. If old PSU and MM phono stage then less than $1000 1
jezzaboogie Posted November 19, 2022 Author Posted November 19, 2022 Is there an easy way to check the PSU and phono stage?

Your preamp hasn't got latest PSU by looking at it. Have you upgraded the volume and balance pot? You can check with balance knob if it 'clicks' in the centre then it's new Alps pots. If not then it's an older version. Edit: your preamp shows 'phono' so it has a phono stage, but to find out whether 'MM' or 'MC' you have to open the lid. Edited November 19, 2022 by vinilink
vinilink Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 I have same set-up and won't part them. 1 1
Andythiing Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 I’d suggest you give Trevor at rage audio a call to get some advice/guidance https://www.rageaudio.com.au/ don’t give them away - ME gear has a great reputation and does not come up all that often and sells pretty well if priced competitively - If gear is working perfectly and is in good condition then id personally advertise the amp at least for $1000 - and the pre for $1500 (but check with Trevor) take the lid of both and post pics of the internals and post here and people may be able to assist further
Zaphod Beeblebrox Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 As Andy has suggested, lift the lids and post some photos and we can guide you more accurately. Please note: * The ME200 employs Torx™ bolts for assembly. You MUST use a T10 Torx™ driver to remove the top cover. There were a couple of variants of ME200 amps. It is important to see which one you have. * The ME25 power supply (at least) has been worked on by an unauthorised repair person. It will need to be checked by someone who knows ME equipment. Or replaced completely. I can supply a new one, if required. * Pricing can be more accurately assessed after examining the photos. * If you plan on buying something to sound better than your ME combo, be prepared to dig deep. 2 1
Bell Ringer Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 @jezzaboogie I think you bought the ME 200 off me back in 2016(?). If it’s the same amp it was serviced by @Zaphod Beeblebrox in 2015/16. 1 1
Jakeyb77_Redux Posted November 19, 2022 Posted November 19, 2022 That preamp May have been mine. Looks like the one I bought from Hifi Exchange. Had all the writing engraved on the front. Serial number is listed in the ad 2

It’s safe to open the lid. If you want to. Just don’t poke around the capacitors inside The lid will just lift straight off. Nothing is attached to it underneath. 1

jezzaboogie Posted November 21, 2022 Author Posted November 21, 2022 Thanks to you both. I knew to (not) do those things but it costs nothing to check! 1 1

jezzaboogie Posted November 27, 2022 Author Posted November 27, 2022 The decision is that this thread has made me stand up and take notice of what I already have! It's going to take at least a few weeks to compare the ME pre/power to the other amplifier I was using in its place.
