1979Anzac Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Hi All. Apologies if this is the wrong forum as I'm new (and this is the first post). Putting together a custom cabinet design for the living room and want to place the PS Audio P20 into the cabinet in the centre. Being passively cooled i want to let it breathe enough so as to prevent over heating- does any one have any recommendations on the min space I should allow above and to the sides? Cabinet would be open at the front and rear with just the base sides and top enclosed. Any assistance or input would be greatly appreciated.

I have a P10 and it is generally just warm to the touch, if the P20 is the same I’d allow a minimum of 50mm gap for the top and sides, hot air rises so perhaps 70-80mm above. 1979Anzac Posted December 20, 2022 Author Posted December 20, 2022 Thanks Awayward! I had allowed 50mm for the sides but only about 30mm for the top- do you think that would be a deal breaker?

You are in Brisbane which gets very hot sometimes so I’d go conservative if possible, hopefully others with a P20 will give their opinion. Edited December 20, 2022 by awayward
1979Anzac Posted December 20, 2022 Author Posted December 20, 2022 Cheers Awayward! Yes coming into the warmer weather. Ill go back to the drawing board (sketchup)
Silver Audiophile Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Ideally, these behemoths should be out on the open. I once tried to place mdf boards to simulate a 4 sided cube cabinet with my PS Audio P10 (with 30mm clearance all around). Gees, after 15 minutes I ended the experiment. Never felt the P10 get so hot!
1979Anzac Posted December 20, 2022 Author Posted December 20, 2022 Thanks Silver Audiophile! Yes trying to put something together the wife can live with need something to be able to take a beosund theatre on top without wall mounting it. Maybe i can look at a design closed on 2 sides and vented on top with stainless steel mesh or angled louvres- hopefully it wont fry the beosound..... complicated 1
