garvice Posted December 23, 2022 Posted December 23, 2022 I wanted to share a rack I built as a Christmas present for my partner. The EC is pretty wide so I wanted to build something custom so the EC looked like it belonged. I also wanted to house records like the wharefdale speaker stands and it had to fit the cd player and turntable. Rack is 6mm plate and 40x40x2 shs. I got the plates cut with a curve to take away the bulky look and give it some flare. All tig welded then powder coated metallic charcoal. Also got the cd player cover powder coated gold metallic. Â I think it turned out pretty freaking cool looking. The really funny thing I realised last night is that the newest component in the rack is the turntable . Â Let me know what you think of it. 17
sre Posted December 24, 2022 Posted December 24, 2022 Wow, it's excellent. Can you share how you build it and which materials you used?
garvice Posted December 24, 2022 Author Posted December 24, 2022 (edited) Thanks. I had 6mm thick mild steel plate CNC plasma cut into a shape that I drew. The legs are 40x40x2mm mild steel square hollow section. I tig welded that to the mild steel plate. I made it in two pieces so that I could put speaker spikes between the sources and the amp. Mainly to make it easier to carry and because it looked cool but thought it couldn't hurt to have the sources a bit isolated. Edited December 24, 2022 by garvice 5 1

Antipodean Brad Posted December 26, 2022 Posted December 26, 2022 Looks great, Brad. But I have to ask - how well did the woodsaw work on the metal?
garvice Posted December 27, 2022 Author Posted December 27, 2022 Hahahaha. Â Nope, wood saw definitely not used . My 3phase brobo cold saw took care of that. Wood saw was left on the ground by one of my minions. I think they are learning poor habits of not putting tools away from me.
cafe67 Posted December 27, 2022 Posted December 27, 2022 Nice, how much do you reckon it cost you to makeÂ
garvice Posted December 27, 2022 Author Posted December 27, 2022 I haven't got a price back for the powder coating yet, but steel was about ~$300, took about 4h (including dropping off to powder coater etc) labour ~ $300 and $~$90 for the spikes. So maybe around a grand. 1
