Cable lifters are the first thing I thought of when I saw them and after all this is where John Darko got the idea for his component weights that are Bunnings door stops.

Do the door stops really work? Has anyone blind tested them on themselves?

I have a pair of Russ Andrews Cable Lifters (Beech Timber) 50mm high and 50mm diameter, Yours for postage $9.90 if you want them.

No benefit here, I now have 4 doorstops looking for doors.

It would probably depend on how big the door is, and if it's exposed to strong breeze or even wind gusts.. I find wedges work pretty good though, as long as the dog doesn't chew them up.

With my dog who has 3 legs, you would need to help him, by kicking the lifters first, then as he bites,  you need to kick them again - "Just the beginning"    ... and try not to get bitten.

I found a Cable Elevator (not a Lifter) made out  of NZ Kauri and sitting on a very shiny stainless steel base ........$449 NZD each!

Initial response from my wife re purchasing 10 of them.........well very negative. Do they do anything? I quoted some detail from the website. Again negative...........I am devastated.

But would she be surprised if you bought them?

Probably not but I am a gutless wonder and do not wish to go there. If I did it there would be a sudden influx of shoes and or jewellery! Usually at higher $ value. Happy New Year.....maybe!

Hahaha. Full on warfare. It’s a race to bankruptcy. Just subtract a zero from the price when she asks. I’m a gutless wonder too. Self preservation!

I put a post in one of the Quad Hifi forums recently about Speaker room interface. I included a photo from my listening seat. I did not expect the response- howls of derision about the speaker cable lifters they spotted at the back of the photo.

Whilst I took it all with some humour. I had to ask them why they were so concerned about me spending $6 for a bag of 20 plastic bar chairs and a few polyester batts  that I bought from Bunnings!  ( Tried them out after getting the idea from members of StereoNet) Mind you they did make a sizeable improvement in SQ! Best bang for the buck!😂

As a matter of interest , what amplification are you using with the 57's

I’m using Audion Silver Night Anniversary PSE 300B Mono blocks (18wpc) - use Shuguang Black Treasure 300B valves. Makes the 57s sing!

I haven't used them.  I that when these are used on top of speakers they can dampen vibrations on the top of the cabinet, which theoretically can improve the sound.  I suspect that they are an indication that the speaker cabinet should have been made of thicker/less resonate material in the first place, so they would not be effective in a well-made speaker.

I would also think that the door stops it could dampen vibrations that could interfere with performance from CD players and valve amp's.  But could benefit some devices and probably not benefit others.

The weights are relatively cheap, so not much to loose by trying them.

I haven't blind-tested the weights on myself.

I prefer to look after my vision, and feel that the only thing weights would do is to reduce my blood circulation and cause bruising.  🙂

I think that if I had a vibration issue with a speaker cabinet I'd probably get some lead sheet and line the cabinets with that. Or, if I wanted to go cheap, I'd sit a brick on them and keep them in place with blue tack. As for the bar chairs (or any other cable lifter), they are in my experience pretty bloody useless, but hey, they look cool.

So if I find that putting my ribbon speaker cables on ($6 for 20) bar chairs on polyester batts quite distinctly improve the SQ (confirmed by partner) of my system, I should ignore that and chuck them out? Why?🤔
