Dilettanteque Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) Douglas Boyd & Chamber Orchestra of Europe - J. S. Bach: Oboe Concertos An early start for work today, so some works that I find a beautiful, if sometimes sprightly, start to the day. Edited February 25, 2020 by Dilettanteque 1
Steffen Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 The interesting thing about this recording is that instead of two cellos they use a cello and a double bass. The booklet has some discussion about why that's a good idea. 2
jazzdog@groovemasters Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 Schumann* / Hindemith* - Pieter Wispelwey, Paolo Giacometti, Australian Chamber Orchestra – Cello Concerto, Pieces for Cello and Piano. Channel Classics CCS11097, CD, Netherlands 1997. 1
jazzdog@groovemasters Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 (edited) David Oistrakh, Berlin Philharmonic, Mozart – Violin Concertos. EMI – ASD 2988, UK 1972. If all of the different versions & pressings of Mozart's K.216 & K.219 that I own were laid end to end they would circumnavigate the earth three times........now where is that tongue in cheek emoji gone? Dilettanteque Posted February 26, 2020 Posted February 26, 2020 (edited) Isabelle Faust and Alexander Melnikov - Beethoven: Sonatas for Piano & Violin These pair have a nice energy and edge to their interpretations of these works - feel less sentimental than other versions I have heard (particularly my memory of Perlman/Ashkenazy). Listening through my Graham LS 5/9s and it is stunning. It was nominated for a Grammy award in 2016 for best surround sound album. Edited March 2, 2020 by PKay
Steffen Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 I’m enjoying this right now, and that’s a tall order, given that my favourite recording of these sonatas (Malcolm Bilson/Sergiu Luca) has been reigning supreme in my personal rankings for over 20 years... 2
jazzdog@groovemasters Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 Borodin Quartet*, Sviatoslav Richter, Schubert*, Schumann* – Der Tod Und Das Mädchen / Piano Quintet. Teldec Classics 0630-18253-2 CD UK & Europe 1998. Borodin then bed, hoped to get to the Piano Quintet, with Sviatoslav Richter,at the keyboard, but that will have to be tomorrow. 4

Very much enjoyed the surround sound (Et Misericordia only) but ultimately (and only slightly) preferred the 2ch MQA. Thanks for the heads-up. 1
Dilettanteque Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, BBC Orchestra (dir. Tortelier) - Ravel Debussy Massenet Heard Ravel's Piano Concerto in G Major at SSO in their part time shed on Saturday. I had never heard it, but found the second movement most beautiful. Procurement seemed the natural response. Oh, and then listen! 2
