lemarquis Posted May 11, 2021 Posted May 11, 2021 (edited) IMO the absolute best rendition of this masterpiece. There is also a vinyl reissue mastered by Bernie Grundman no less which in itself is an experience. Edited May 11, 2021 by lemarquis 3

hired goon Posted May 13, 2021 Posted May 13, 2021 Marc-André Hamelin - Grainger: Piano Music -- $1 pickup from the op shoppe this morning. Never really been a fan of Percy's tunes but I do enjoy Hamelin's performances of trickier composers such as Alkan and Godowsky so giving this one a go. --Geoff 2
crtexcnndrm99 Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 An incredibly spacious recording, if anyone has this one? Haven’t spun it a while and wow it’s a real trip, as they say. 2
hired goon Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 (edited) George-Emmanuel Lazaridis - Liszt: Sonatas and Etudes -- solo piano recording of Liszt's formidible Sonata in B minor, and the Pagani Etudes to finish things off. Very noice. This is a SACD on Linn Records so the sound is good as you would expect (although sadly I don't have a surtround-sound setup). --Geoff Edited May 14, 2021 by hired goon 3
Steffen Posted May 14, 2021 Posted May 14, 2021 Sometimes the best things hide in plain sight forever. For example, this recording has been my goto for these unique and unrivalled works, for over 30 years: Now, I’m finding that this been out for much of this time, and nobody cared to inform me It’ll take me the better part of a decade to get used to this and make up my mind which I prefer. So far, so good. 1
hired goon Posted May 15, 2021 Posted May 15, 2021 Roberto Szidon - Scriabin: Complete Piano Sonatas -- yoinked from ye old op shoppe today, this is a 3xCD set recorded in the late 1960s - early 1970s. Quite an eccentric performance at times. --Geoff 2

I’ve got the “classic” conducted by Jochum, though I haven’t listened to it yet. Also got one of the “duds” (conducted by Shaw) but this is the version of O Fortuna used in all the commercials and movies (and let’s face it, O Fortuna is what most people want to hear) I saw the Mehta/Sumi Jo at an op shoppe recently but left it behind ... maybe I should yoink it for a listen. —Geoff Edited May 15, 2021 by hired goon 1

mwhouston Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 A 1979 Phillips recording Ariodante is not only an excellent recording but a super quiet pressing. I bought this in the shrink wrap over 15 years ago. Through my all DIY system including tube phono stage and tube preamp sounds exceptional. Phenomenal performances also. A great day to be alive. Not sure about tomorrow. 2
