First of another eBay bundle of classical music...

Shostakovich: Symphonies No 1 & 9 (London Philharmonic Orchestra - Bernard Haitink) (Decca Digital Recording - 1981)

Don't think I've heard Shostakovich before.. Nice addition to my modest classical collection.

Then you really need to fire up the 5th symphony!

Burning my Mahler collection into FLAC and revisiting some different interpretations of the 2nd Symphony (Resurrection).

We had the Nott recording this morning and am about to lay into the fantastic (and probably my favourite) recording with Tennstedt and the LPO.

Agree It really feels like a Mahler day today.  Listened to #2, #5 and now on to #1.

Any recommendation on a pressing?

Lots of good ones out there really - I have this set on CD and there is just something extra special about these recordings. Just find a good orchestra and settle in, the Berlin Phil, Moscow Phil etc wouldn't record it with a rubbish conductor!

If I had the impossible task of naming my favourite piece of music ever, this pair would be among the top three.

Tonight is a pure choral evening as I was supposed to be conducting a choral concert today but like the last 5 they have all been cancelled.

Can’t believe I have only just found this topic! I am a huge fan of listening and playing classical music. Recently getting into vinyl and have enjoyed collecting some of my favourite artists.

To kick off with a classic- Beethoven’s violin concerto performed exquisitely by Leonid Kogan with Silvestri and the Paris Conservatoire Orchestra. One day, I’ll find that SAX copy down at the Salvos..
