I have the Philips LP, Japanese pressing. I hadn’t seen another version of the Maurice Gendron recordings. 1

Dilettanteque Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 You discerning gents may know. I am contemplating a late 70s Dutch pressing Decca boxed classical set. I've not heard specific comments re Dutch quality for vinyl around that time . Any general insights would be much appreciated please.

Generally, Dutch pressings, especially Phillips, are well regarded, unlike 1970s German pressings of Deutche Grammophon (if that is not a tautology)), they can be a lottery SQ wise, IMO. 2 1
dwbasement Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 One of my favourites, this one is a jap pressing. 2

Looks like this is the recent (no so recent) issue. Is it mono? How does it sound? Edited July 14, 2022 by dwbasement
Dilettanteque Posted July 14, 2022 Posted July 14, 2022 My copy is recent - 2018 Warner Classics. A digitally remastered 24/96 transfer unfortunately rather than something more linked to its history. Sound quality naturally constrained by its past but certainly an enjoyable experience if you listen to it on its own merits as historical recording rather than through a more contemporary audiophile set of expectations as a frame of reference. Pressings on my copy nice and quiet. Currently AU$82 from a global ecommerce behemoth near you. Glad to have it with the Starker and the Rostropovich in vinyl (to go with the dozen digi versions i may need to plough back into now I have started something). 1

I have the mono pressing, actually had 2 copies before but one copy was not in good condition when it arrived so I got refunded. Also have the CD too but vinyl sounds much better as I can use the mono cart. Yes, I have been trying to get the full suite by Rostropovich but not possible luckily they released the vinyl recently.
