arpasquill Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 Recent posts have made me decide that Shostakovich is to be the composer of listening choice during some rubbish Sydney weather, so I've just dug out some sets of the symphonies and will get started with the 1st Symphony at 11am and work my way through as many as I can throughout the day! Tomorrow might be a String Quartets day! 5

Just a small section of the Shostakovich section, everything is in boxes due to lack of space in the house but I'm currently ripping everything to my Innuos setup to play via Roon when the need arrives. The Melodiya live and studio recordings of the symphonies always astound me everything I return to listen to them! 1

arpasquill Posted October 24, 2022 Posted October 24, 2022 He's always been a favourite of mine, especially when I had the chance to perform his works at Uni. The 5th Symphony was my first taste and then came the 1st Violin concerto which just blew me away (which of course features the DSCH motif as chords in the cadenza). Just an amazing work! 1

The Oehms label is ALSO new to me....hmmm...I have not been paying attention.

Also Tosca, La Boheme, Carmen all good choices for those not that familiar with the great art. Enjoy

Not the cast when I think of Wagner but anything with Wunderlich must be good. So here's at it ! Edited October 26, 2022 by RobbC
