Steever Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 (edited) Further Information: Mint condition enclosures in a rich and luxurious red tinted real walnut veneer. Fully rebuilt and silver solder hardwired crossovers with Mundorf caps, MOX resistors and factory inductors. Full new cable loom using Nordost Flatline Gold. Brand new alloy frame Aerogel midrange drivers from Audax. The original version of the factory drivers had plastic frames and issues with weeping cones and corrosion of voice coils and tinsel leads. The new drivers are the proper replacement with new cone material which doesn’t weep. Tri-wire connections on the rear. Billet alloy outrigger legs for added stability. Multi-cavity, heavy, CLD treated, CNC machined, folded enclosures. I consulted personally on this work with original designer of this model, Peter Comeau. Cost of all parts is close to $1900 on top of that for the original speakers. All work was well documented in my Steve’s hi-fi adventures thread here on SNA. The rebuild resulted in a very substantial improvement over the standard speakers and now compares very favorably indeed to similar sized Spendor and Castle models costing around $4000-5000. These were used very briefly in my large living space (2.8 ceilings and 9m x 5m room) and produced a positively huge sound stage with significant improvements in detail, transparency and depth over the original 782 (I used to retail these speakers back in the early ‘00’s). These don’t even have 5 hours music through them since completing this work. So they’re not even run in yet and have since been in storage. No boxes but I live close to Pack’n’Send and will work with them and the buyer to make sure these arrive safely at their new home. These were a dream build for me but they’re just not being used now and the funds will be put to good use elsewhere in my main system. Edited January 15, 2023 by Steever Edit price 2
Luckiestmanalive Posted January 6, 2023 Posted January 6, 2023 GLWTS - these 782s look fantastic! I had a pair back in the day for a minute and enjoyed them a lot. Where did you get the outriggers?
