Hi all just a friendly reminder to please post in the most appropriate sub-forum with your topics.

We're constantly moving threads from General Discussion, to other sub-forums where they were more suited. Ie. Amps, Speakers, Turntable forums etc.
Please give a moment to consider the best place for your thread before posting.

Cheers.

Not sure how this is continuing to be overlooked time and time again.

My partner would like to know:

”why does this need a ‘hot girl’?”

Sounds like extremist feminism.

Would someone complain about it being a dude if it was clearly a hot dude?

Very interesting... especially the “get a job” (via PM) comments.

I haven't the references to provide as hyperlinks, but from what I've been told about marketing and advertising-related things.

1) Two circles

             O  O

As humans, show us two circles and we treat them as eyes. Seems to be hardcoded in the species. Eyes grab attention.

2) Young women

The presence of young women in photos attracts the attention of both genders, and retains the attention for longer, again for both genders, and leads to increased sales.

Let's put it another way: the notice would have less attention paid to it if the young lady was removed.

Frankly it makes me feel exploited and manipulated. I'm perfectly capable of not reading the instructions, and with the young lady's image present I simply have to work just that little bit harder. But I can read an entire newspaper and not see any advertisements.

I have never noticed this anywhere on SNA before.   Seems like a mountain out of a molehill to me.

Now that I look closer, it looks like @Marc in drag on a Thursday evening ??

In marketing it applies to both sexes.

It's 'Industrial psychology'

Same reason good looking symmetrical men and women do better in the work place compared to unattractive asymmetrical men and women.

That being said, I never noticed the image before now, I tend to read the notice and little else.

Indeed!

The level of research by the marketing industry would possibly leave the military far behind.

What they know about us collectively, and individually, is staggering...  they know how we tick, how we think, and how we act.

They prey on human insecurities to move their products...

...  and it's very effective.
